There have been a few games in the past that I've gotten very excited for yet they end up being not nearly as good as the hype I had built up in my head. For example, Alone in the Dark which was by far the worst game I have ever played. Or, for example, the Wii. I am very excited for Borderlands but at the same time, in the back of my head, I have a nagging suspicion that it might not live up to my own personal hype. I either need some reassurance that this will be a good game or I need someone to open my eyes. Help me out people.
Will Borderlands be as Good as I Think it Will?
Well... all ive seen so far is people running around the same sandy bunch of rocks, shooting dogs with "half a million" weapons that look all the fucking same..
i really feel something warm and optimistic about this game but i need an actual reason to back it up ..
I don't expect it to. I had high hopes until I saw actual gameplay.
I was really let down with the base GTA4 after loving the earlier games. But I think it had a LOT to do with SUPER HIGH expectations. The letdown lowered my expectations and TLAD ended up being better than I thought it would be. Now I'm apprehensive about playing BOGT out of fear it might raise my GTA5 (or whatever) expectations too high. And SR is not an option.
Perhaps I'm lowering my Borderlands expectations in a subconscious effort to make the game playable once it comes out.
" It's going to be amazing. 'Nuff said "care to elaborate, my good sir ?

" the "making of" videos for borderlands sort of turned me off with its unique brand of humor that i honestly dont like very much "why not? (:
Don't expect too much otherwise you're letting yourself down. Although I'm not excited about Borderlands (of which any game has yet to titiliate me) I'm sure it's going to be great fun. Try not to think about it too much.
I'm not really that hyped for the games to be honest, I havent seen anything to get really excited about. I guess it's best this way since if it flops I wont be to upset, and if it turns out great then I get to play a good game.
Very true, I would try and keep your hard on for the game suppressed until the game is released and we see some reviews. And, if you are still skeptical you can always rent it, because gearbox isn't planning a pre-release demo for it." Well, only time will tell, won't it? "
I don't know, in podcasts the people I listen to seem to be getting less hyped about it. I mean the shotting looks like it needs to take a work. If your level 12 and your fighting level 11s then shouldn't you take them down in a few hits like its a halo or a call of duty, but the videos I've seen it still takes alot of bullets to sink somebody levels lower than you, I'm pretty sure they weren't bosses either.
That seems to be the problem to me, the shooting mechanic is very awesome straigh out of call of duty or maybe brothers in arms is a better comparisn? but the actual damage counter and stuff needs some tweaking in my opinion.
My sources say that it will not live up to your expectations:

" It'll probably disappoint, but it should be decent at the very least. "Yeah I mean even if its reviews are kind o mediocre i'll probably buy it, because I think the concept is the kind of game that we really all want. Even if the game that comes out this particular development process isn't great of anything I still want to see other developers try out similiar genre crossing ideas and so I will support it in the hope that it sells enough to influance other developers or produce a better sequel.
Everything I have seen to date has made me want Borderlands, but I understand the trepidation. One thing to note is that they of course haven't released even a fraction of the content to the public, Randy Pitchford said it was a 60+ hour game. I also think that the people at Gearbox have made awesome games in the past, and are honestly excited about Borderlands, which makes me excited too.
I am worried. Being that it is an IP. I don't know what to expect, and know one's really ever tried this before, expect for Fallout, but that was different, because of VATS...and otherwise the normal shooting sucked balls in Fallout 3. I expect Borderlands to be a five star game/ 9.0/ 9.5. I don't think it'll be the GOTY, that will go to AC2 or MW 2, but it definitely looks promising. I'd be hyped, but not REALLY hyped for it.
See: Scribblenauts. It doesn't matter what the game delivers, because no matter how great Borderlands actually is, there will be plenty of people with overly-high expectations who will shit on the game because it isn't perfect. So lower your expectations now in order to prevent disappointment in the future.
I've seen so much of the game and heard so much positive feedback from respected journalists that I'm not really worried about this game not living up to the hype. The only thing that I'm still concerned about is that maybe the world is not as outlandishly huge and open-ended as it's depicted. That would be disappointing.
All I need Borderlands to be is co-op fun with persistent characters. So I'm sold already. My expectations otherwise aren't many. They've done a good job of hyping up the gameplay instead of the thin coating on-top that most everyone else displays.
To be honest, I like both ways of marketing a game. Mystery of gameplay and integration vs. mystery of story and game world. Borderlands is obviously the latter. But still, my expectations aren't high for any video game story to be that good to begin with. And this looks at least guilty chuckle inducing.
Jeff, Brad and other people who's opinions I trust tell me the shooting is solid. There's some stuff absent that I couldn't care less about. But it's got a lot going for it all around as a game to check out. And in a few weeks I'll be couch-co-oping for what I hope will be a surprisingly long time.
I guess there's room to be disappointed with how long its appeal will last and keep me L4D-style hooked through the winter. But, whatever, AC2 comes soon after. Then BAM! 2010 and I'll be on a backlog again.
... Borderlands.
