I agree; if gmail can do it with aim within the browser I don't see why IRC chat (barebones) can't be done.

The only reason I might agree is that I can't access the IRC from school due to some weird internet setups, but I like that the IRC is separate from the main site otherwise.

No.

Anyway, I'd be interested to see a "search friends/users" function. When I'm trying to access a GB friend's profile, it can be a pain to sift through the friends list. Even worse is when the user in question is not on your friends list and you have to look for him/her through the forum search. That rarely works.

P.S.

BoG, I did post the suggestion to make a new suggestion thread in the...suggestion thread. You can look for it, if you're so inclined. =P

I have a couple of suggestions I've been thinking about, and am planning on blogging about them in more detail, but since there's a new suggestion thread, I might as well outline my main idea here.

Micro-Reviews. Like twitter Micro-Blogs, but for game reviews. I've got tonnes of opinions about games, but I'm not the best writer in the world, and I often don't have the time/can't be bothered to write a full user review. So, a Micro-Review system would be brilliant. You could briefly summarize your thoughts and give a rating. They wouldn't be quite as short as twitters, but still quite short.

Now I know there's nothing to stop me from using the main user reviews system to write small reviews, but I know when I'm looking through user reviews, I want a detailed, well written review, not just a summary. Keeping the Micro-Reviews separate from the Macro-Reviews would be fantastic.

Also, I've heard people wanting to just be able to rate a game, like on gamespot and other games sites, which pretty much goes against the whole idea of giant bombs rating system, the idea that the rating is the least important part of a review. However this would give people the ability to rate games AND give a brief summary of their opinions, which would be pretty cool.

That's a good idea. I don't have time to write full-blown for all the games I play, so I would love to put my opinion out there with minimal effort. It would be something like Flixster right?

As for my ideas, I would like to be able to edit the lists we have on our profiles (move up and down). That way we can easily change our minds with ordered lists and such later.

Just a suggestion to people providing suggestions in this topic, use bullet points. They are visual more tidy and easier to read!

Make a separate part about Video Game Medias. they're very various.

Also, Please do something with your embedded player for BombCast, every time I want to play Podcast my it responds with download request- that I don't like it because I only listen to the half of the rants and Downloading it is a waste of bandwidth.

This is why I love both Hamz and The Beast!

I also propose that this topic is about 24 hours too early. ;-)

I'm pretty sure someone already suggested a "Games I own" list or "willing to trade" kinda thing. But I think it should be reinstated.

He said that when people are sitting in a chat room, they're generally just sitting in the chat room, they're not clicking on other links, and seeing more adverts, and generating ad revenue for the site, and therefore it wouldn't be particularly beneficial to the site to have a built in chat room. He said he was happy for the community to keep doing their thing with the IRC.

  1. ignore option
its been asked for before and by many, and ill keep the tradition up and ignore option would only be a good thing keep fighting from starting and keeping people from hurting others feelings as well keep the off topicness of a thread down since people would be far easier to ignore someone with an mechanism for it then to have to fight there own will not to reply.

I was thinking. How about a forum where users can post their reviews and have them critiqued? So long as we have some members who are experienced with writing reviews and have enough time, I think that it would be a good system to help improve the quality of everyone's writing.

I suggest that this thread gets stickied on the newest topics forum a few days. Now the update has come out, I'm sure lots of people have suggestions relating to it, so it'd be good to give this thread some extra coverage for a few days.

When you click on the comments button of something twice, the comments should disappear instead of showing the little loading bar again.

A couple of suggestions:
  • A Facebook "Wall-to-Wall" style method for returning wall comments; ever since using Facebook the system implemented here seems needlessly clunky.
  • A filter for automatically authorising wall posts from friends. I'm aware this could be heavily abused, especially with the staff, however a 'check list' like system of selecting certain friends for this option could be put in place?

That's all I've got really; digging the new design guys.

That would surely have to be a decision made by Twitter? Unless there are open source components

Not being a dev, I don't know first hand, but I'm fairly sure twitters API tools are incredibly diverse. There are a wealth of programs out there that let you publish twitters to twitter, I'd imagine it would be possible to do the same from websites.

Ahhh cool -- I honestly didn't know, I was very sure it was twitter-twitter or and twitter-outgoing.

Would be a pretty cool idea in that case then
