Theres a couple threads like this, but anyways :)
Same as most of you, Gamespot.
How did you get here on Giantbomb?
Well I used to be a really big Gamespot user and I loved Jeff and all the old staff there. I was sad to see Jeff go, but one day somebody mentioned about a new site on one of their blogs. So I checked out Giant Bomb, kept an eye on it and when it was finally time for the sites proper launch I was only too eager to sign up.
My friend basically told me about this site when we were in school.. so i joined. I believe he found it after another site went down.
I used to be a Gamespotter myself, knowing these dudes. Then, when Jeff got fired, I was all WTF? and I followed his blog for a few months until Giant Bomb launched in blog and full website format. It has been a long, fun ride. Now, I occasionally visit Gamespot and IGN, but this is my primary site. I think I made the right choice.
I signed up with GS originally because I thought the site was better put together than 1 Up or IGN, particularly with regards to the community side of things. After "Gerstmanngate" I ended up at GB, as the content on GS just seemed lacking in personality with the old crew departed.
The events that happened at 1up left a gaping hole in my heart, one I sought
to fill. This was actually the first place I checked after hearing some of the Giant
Bomb crew on 1up Yours, and ended up staying. Its only been a few days, and
I'm still easing into the place, But I like it a lot here.
Jeff being fired.
I always thought his reviews were spot on and wanted to see more of his stuff.
Never cared for GS as a whole though.
I loved the guys on Gamespot. And followed them here. I have been a fan for a few years now and am glad to have the gang back together!
The Giantbomb guys were on 1up Yours last month before the whole UGO buys 1up.com merger happened. I liked them on the podcast but have been following the website since I heard about the Gamespot incident. I have listened to the podcast since it began so decided to sign up for the forums. Looking good and I hope to stick around for awhile. Before coming to this website I was a member of 1up and gamespot but never posed alot on gamespot.
I was bored of gamespot...the whole selling score incident made me go fuck you gamespot and I've been here since the first day...fun times
I have followed On the Spotters since the year 2000, after Jeff was fired, I was so mad, and I heard about GiantBomb on a Gamespot message board in March or April and have been a proud member of Giantbomb since July 21, 2008
I was a gamespot user for six years or so. I migrated here over the summer on launch day, but I was following the blog since Jeff started posting last winter. Gamespot was good for a while but my reason for leaving was because I lost interest in the content of the site. The community was great, but I enjoy the writing and commentary on Giant bomb a lot more. Also I appreciate that this place is run by a smaller group of people who are dedicated to the field of video games and not a giant corporation who views the site as an asset on a spread sheet.
I followed jeff's blog and then I heard that he had a website called Giantbomb about launch on the gamespot forums.
I was born a poor black child. After stints at a gas station, a circus, and as a glasses nosepiece vendor, I arrived at GB through the vagaries of the time-space continuum brought about by time-traveling midgets and a two-headed guy who was just frooping wild.
I heard about this website in the comments for the article on 1up about how they got bought out. So I decided to come here.
"CitizenKane said:I remember seeing that name in the OT there. Were you banned?"I used to be a long time Gamespotter."Same here. I was once known as the great Boba_Fett_3710, now I'm just plain, ol' Bullet Jr."
"UGO bought 1up"Yeah me too and I always listened to the podcast which is the best gaming podcast so I thought I should check the website.
"Bullet_Jr said:Yeah, I was banned for "Ban Dodging", despite the fact that I never ban-dodged while I was there. It seemed like they were purposefully banning active members, but I really can't imagine why."CitizenKane said:I remember seeing that name in the OT there. Were you banned?""I used to be a long time Gamespotter."Same here. I was once known as the great Boba_Fett_3710, now I'm just plain, ol' Bullet Jr."
I was a devoted listener to the Hotspot & On the Spot podcasts, so after the Gershmangate incident and the subsequent exodus of the other noted players, I began following his blog and related websites. One link eventually lead here, and to the Itunes pocast. I've been here ever since. Probably more so, now that 1UP's been downsized.
"I was a huge fan of the whole crew back in the gamespot days, and I was extremely upset when Jeff was fired. I followed his blog and have been listening to the new podcast since the day the first one came out.^^^^^
They needed my pyrotechnical abilities to make the site more authentic.
