New, New God Of War III Screens Of Holy Fuck...
In-game. Can you spot Kratos? FUCK!
Trailer now delayed. Rumoured for Super Bowl.
Full set of screens and hands-on at Joystiq.
Adios "bad graphics" folk.
"The demo was incredibly short, perhaps two or three minutes long. But that's all Santa Monica Studios needed to effectively demonstrate the scope of their vision. The graphical improvements were immediately noticeable: motion blur, depth of field, better lighting and special effects. However, it was the cinematic camera work and the incredibly inspired level design that really left an impression."
Fuck.
I recommend you read IGN's quick impressions on the demo they where given, sounds fucking badass.
Flicked through the screenshots. I have to say it looks really impressive considering the scale and to detail everything. Cheers for the heads up.
Alright, definitely buying a PS3 in time for God of War III.
That thing is fucking huge.
Why? This still isn't very impressive. Take note that the picture is extremely downscaled, there must be at least 3x3 pseudo supersampling in that pic due to that. Even then it looks pretty bad. I'm not being picky of console graphics; Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 looked amazing, this does not.Adios "bad graphics" folk.
There's a blow-by-blow account of the new trailer rumoured to be revealed at the Superbowl here.
EDIT: Although I guess I should say Geno, while I totally disagree (the artistic scale of this is beyond anything on PS3 thus far), you're entitled to your tastes and opinion.

All jokes aside, this game caused me to buy a PS3. plain and simple
Fuck yea! This game will be soooo freaking awesome. And for anyone bashing on it come on, your just picking out incredibly tiny things just to say something bad about, I know that no game is perfect but you can't say this game won't be fucking awesome.
"@Geno: Dude, what the fuck? Joystiq have it in full-res. And that thing is in motion. Moving. While you play. And plus, the comments coming out of eyes-on/hands-on are saying very, very, very lovely things about the visuals. But you don't need words. Yes the trailer would have been nice. BUT FUCK.

The full res is even less impressive. Honestly, this looks like a first generation PS3 game, it's comparable to Heavenly Sword. I'm not trying to troll, and I admit that I'm somewhat of a graphics whore, but I don't see how people can think this game looks good after the release of Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2. The first time I saw screenshots of this game I thought they were from GoW2, it has improved since then but not enough to set its graphics apart to the point where some people are drooling over it.
" @get2sammyb said:Clearly most of us have bad eye sight compared to you. Even editors on other gaming sites are ejaculating over this now, so it can't be all that unimpressive."@Geno: Dude, what the fuck? Joystiq have it in full-res. And that thing is in motion. Moving. Heavenly Sword :
God of War 3 :
I suspect, GoW3 will look even better in motion. Who wants to bet the Titan or whatever actually moves? I don't know if it specifically can compete with Uncharted 2, but I can count the better looking game candidates on one hand.
Facepalm.Honestly, this looks like a first generation PS3 game, it's comparable to Heavenly Sword."
There's facepalm all over this thread. If I was at Sony Santa Monica right now I'd be crying into my coffee over this thread. I mean, I can't imagine they could give much more.
I'm glad others are able to use their eyes.
Graphic whoring aside though, editors are wanking over the magic level design too. You're essentially fighting ON that Titan while it MOVES. One screen shows Kratos climbing up the hand, another fighting on the wrist twisted.
Oh man... Trailer NAO.
@Geno: Yo man. I know you're hardcore PC gamer like myself. But the game looks good for a PS3 game. Devs are limited to one piece of hardware and this is what you get. I'm happy it looks pretty damn good considering the PS3 is based on the old 7800GTX.
" @Diamond: PS3 has gone a looooong way. Looks awesome. There are plenty of good looking games on the PS3 compared to anything on any platform. This is not one of them.

That was the reaction that I had when I first heard people saying this game had amazing graphics.Facepalm.
The shot I posted from God Of War III shows scale beyond anything I've personally ever seen in a video game. The detail is unreal. I've never, ever seen scope like that in ANY game. Bayonetta just came out and, yo, that had some scale. But it didn't even have a 10th of what's being shown in these screens.
It's subjective about the art. Maybe you don't like God Of War's moodly look. Maybe you don't like the dark colours. I don't know.
Either way, I can't believe we're even having this conversation. You think Uncharted and Killzone and Heavenly Sword looks better? Cool. That's awesome. I disagree but I can see why you might say that. Maybe. But we haven't even seen this in motion yet, something which journos have and are wanking frantically over.
The fact is, you're coming across like these new screens aren't even impressive in any way, shape or form. Maybe that's not your intention, but it boggles my mind that someone would not be blown away, or at least subtly impressed with the scope of these shots.
" @Diamond:Heavenly Sword looks horrendous. I understand that it's impressive due to all those characters being rendered at the same time. But those textures just don't match the GOW 3 screen right under it.
That's because you chose a bad picture:
Heavenly Sword:
Yes GoW3 looks better, but only marginally. The amount of adoration it's getting for its graphics is undeserved. "
I said Uncharted and Killzone look better, and Heavenly Sword looks comparable. HS certainly looks worse, it was released 4 years ago. If GoW3 looked worse I'm sure lots of people would have some stuff to say about it. Like I said, the game definitely isn't ugly, it's even above average, but it's undeserving of all the attention it's getting for its graphics. If you want detail you should maybe check out Batman:AA, along with the other games I've mentioned, all I'm seeing in these screenshots are pre-rendered textures that will most likely, as in GoW1 and 2, be completely non-interactive. And on the contrary, I actually like the art style."@Geno: Fair enough. But you're comparing two different things. Heavenly Sword does not look better as far as I recall. Heavenly Sword was a great looking first PS3 game; and the scope of the shot you posted is/was awesome -- but for all you know God Of War III might have a section later on with a battle of that size and nature in which case, we'll compare. The shot I posted from God Of War III shows scale beyond anything I've personally ever seen in a video game. The detail is unreal. I've never, ever seen scope like that in ANY game. it goes like this for people who are wondering, the correct answer to the graphics argument is this:
Uncharted 2
GOW3
Killzone 2
Heavy Rain
Heavenly Sword (wayyyyyyyyyyyyy down here)
Smartassness aside, This game looks amazing, and people who dont see it....i want some of the hallucinogens they are on.
Anyway, does anyone else want to upload the full set of screens. I would but it's not working for me. :(
You can read the full recap of that demo here.As you progress down this solitary pathway, you get a glimpse of a massive blue Titan scaling the mountain you're climbing to your left. But wait! You're not climbing a mountain; over on the left side of the screen you catch a glimpse of a massive face and realize that you're climbing the Gaia's arm while she climbs a mountain... what knocked my socks off was the presentation. When Gaia initially flung her arm back, the camera zoomed way out so that you could take in the entire scene, and while this was happening, you could still be fighting as Kratos.
Joystiq said that Dante's Inferno looks totally "last-gen" after playing God of War III.
Yeah man, don't doubt Sony Santa Monica.
So do we reckon that Sony's marketing budget will stretch to the Superbowl? I'm a Brit so it means jack-shit to me, but I can see why it would be a huge deal for Americans. Especially presuming there would be some marketing cross-over between the two.
