What I played in 2013

The year is coming to a close, so I decided to look back at all the games I played. I know I missed a few, but this should be most of them. Take a look, judge my taste in games, and if you played anything that's not on this list that I should play, tell me.

List items

  • I never played this when it was released on PC, but since getting a PS4 I have been putting alot of time into it. It feels like the best bits of Call of Duty and Counter-strike. Its fun, but its been having some major issues since launch. Plus the free-to-play stuff feels a bit..gross. You need to grind a lot to get anything really. Still, the weapons and items are all nicely balanced so you can run around with the starter rifle and wreck kids.

  • This has been out for a while, but it finally came to Android earlier this year. I like this game alot. Fantastic art, fun gameplay. Plus you get to be a lumberjack, and he's OK.

  • I wrote a review for this. A lot of people seem to like this game..I'm not a giant fan of it. I found it to be a repetitive mess. Doesn't help that I've played every AC game outside of Liberation, so I think the series is just starting to become really stale to me.

  • I enjoyed Most Wanted, thought it was a fun arcade-y racer. This feels a lot like Most Wanted, which is nice, but it left me feeling like I had already played this game. Plus the writing is some of the worse I've seen in a game. They actually say stuff like "your the star of the reality show now" and " hes not my enemy...hes my rival"

  • Just started playing this game...I..don't know what it is, but I like it. I like alot.

  • The first episode of this Telltale series is better then anything Walking Dead did at all. Visually its better, writing is more impressive and the action segments feel good and playable. Makes me REALLY excited to play Walking Dead Season 2.

  • When this game works, its a lot crazy fun. The problem is that the game doesn't really work. For a few days after it came out I would hit the options button on my PS4 controller and be taken to a blue error screen everytime. I couldn't get past the title screen. The campaign, by the way, is one of the worst Ive played in awhile. It tries so hard to be serious and big but feels boring and cliched.

  • Looking at this game's screenshots, you might think this is another neat indie game with some interesting mechanics. You would be wrong. The game's art style is nice, but it gets frame-y at times, even on my PS4. The controls feel float-y and the story is OK but a bit short. Overall, a disappointing game. But its free for PS Plus members right now, which is nice.

  • It seems like a simple shooter. But as you play it more and more, you discover how complex and intricate the game's scoring system is. Its also just gorgeous to look at and a blast to play. Its not worth getting a PS4 for but if you have one, you should totally play this.

  • I did a review for this game recently, as I finally played it not to long ago. It was a boring and dull shooter with pretty graphics.

  • Theres not a lot here, I wrote a review on this one, but needless to say I found it to be really shallow and a shadow of the older Zoo Tycoon games. Still if you have kids, or if it goes free for Gold members at some point, its not terrible. Just not a lot of game for $60.

  • If you like Poker, this is a fine free game to play. If you don't like poker, then I would probably not play it.

  • A below average MMO that really is not a lot of fun to play. The controls were a bit stiff, the performance on my Xbox 360 was a bit crap and the game seems to run out of content pretty quick. On the positive side there's no monthly sub fee...which is nice. But how do they make money? Answer. micro-Transactions.

  • I wouldn't play it...shit..I did. Well...take my word for it. Its bad.

  • I played it on 3DS last year, and played it on Xbox 360 this year. Still one of my favorite Resident Evils to come out since Resident Evil 4. Its just the right mix of horror and action. I really hope the next Resident Evil game feels more like THIS game then 6.

  • If this was just a poker game, well it would be kind of average and not worth your time. But having Brock Samson, Ash Williams, Claptrap and Sam all at a table talking and telling stories is great. BUT wait, you also get GLADoS from Portal and Max the crazy rabbit partner of Sam. All of them in a room is actually really funny. Warning, it can start to get dull after you hear the same joke a few times, but its great while it lasts.

  • Tower defense meets shooter, Sanctum 2 is a lot of fun. Especially with a friend. The co-op is great. I really enjoyed this game, but it might not be for everyone. Download the demo on XBLA and see if you might enjoy it.

  • I honestly forgot this game came out this year. I'm a fan of the Gears of War series. I always liked the world and the games felt like big dumb Hollywood action movies. But this game is just...meh. A story with no real memorable moments or new characters, and multiplayer that feels so small and less varied then Gears 3. Yeah, I don't remember much of Gears Judgment, but what I do remember is not very good. But, I hear the Cole Train still runs on Whole Grain, which is nice.

  • A gigantic game. A gorgeous game. A...kind of boring multiplayer. Still the single player is so well made, so action packed and fun it more then makes up for the less then impressive GTA Online. And I've been messing around with the content creator they just added to GTAO, and I got to say..pretty nifty.

  • I really enjoyed the previous two games. Hell I even enjoyed the mobile game they made a while back. But this game just didn't stay with me at all. An ok, but forgettable game.

  • A fantastic game, with amazing an amazing art style and intriguing story. I know that its cool to hate this game now,but screw it I REALLY enjoyed this game.

  • Oh man, this was a surprise. If you had told me last year that a Tomb Raider reboot would be one of my favorite games this year I would have probably laughed. But this game was just great. In some ways it felt like Uncharted, which is fine by me. I'm excited to play it again on my PS4 next month.

  • I played so much Rogue Legacy..It was just so good. Exciting and challenging, I had SO much fun failing over and over. When it comes to PS4 I'll sit down and play it some more.

  • Gamefly helps so much for me. It lets me play games that I would never spend 50-60$ on. Fuse is a great example. I don't actually remember anything about the game..I only remembered I played it because I was looking at a game release list of 2013 and saw it. That's not a good sign of quality.

  • I have a soft spot for two things. One is Zooey Deschanel. The other is Zombies. These things sometimes mean I have to endure some awful stuff. Like Elf. But on the plus side, the coop was actually really fun, and I do enjoy beating zombies up with random objects.

  • Hot damn this is a great game. Seriously, if you haven't played this game yet your missing out. You play as a bounty hunter, but the game is all stories that your telling to some people in a bar. Sometimes you say one thing, then remember it was actually something else, and the game world changes around you. Fog might roll in, Indians might turn into cowboys, etc. Its also a well built shooter with a nice art style. Highly recommend.

  • So...this will probably get me yelled at, but...I didn't like Gunpoint all that much. The controls felt a bit strange to me for what the game was asking me to do, I also wasn't a huge fan of some the hacking mechanics. I did like the writing, but not enough to keep playing to the finish.

  • Now this is a game I hope they bring to console, not so much for me, but because it would expose it to a large audience. All those people who just PS4's and Xbox One's need something to play. How about this crazy awesome game. Really enjoyed this one.

  • Its sort of an ugly game. It has some terrible framerate issues and texture pop in, but its also the zombie game I have ALWAYS wanted. You get to explore a large rural town and farming area. You look for supplies, help others, kill zombies and build up a base for you and your group. It has permadeath, meaning every-time you leave your base you might not come back. Fantastic game, Im excited to see what Undead Labs has planned for Xbox One.

  • On one hand I really enjoyed this game. On the other hand it was more because of the characters and story. The gameplay was underwhelming. The stealth felt scary, at first, but eventually it became more annoying. I usually enjoy Stealth games, but didn't enjoy these bits all that much. Its visually impressive, but I actually never got to the end..sort of just lost interest in it. Sorry Ellie.

  • I'm not a huge fan of Deadpool, I find him to be funny in small doses. Which is why this game works, its really short.(BAD-DUM tssh)

But seriously, this was an average game with some funny jokes about gaming. But it was also filled with some REALLY bad jokes and some terribly repetitive sections. overall not that great..

  • Its a pretty game, like surprisingly good looking. But sadly its biggest feature, for me, creating levels is hindered by having to grind to unlock anything to build with. The campaigns that come with the toys are empty and feel thrown together. But if you have some younger kids you know, they would probably like this. Probably.

  • Sometimes I play a game and about half way through I stop and wonder "Why am I enjoying this?" The Bureau was one of those games. Its shooting and cover feel kind of mushy and not very smooth. But the time period, art style, and even a lot of the writing are great. Running around in the 60's wearing a fedora and kicking alien ass is actually pretty fun. Plus Agent Weaver is a great example of a strong and awesome female character, and we need more of those.

  • I'm a pretty huge Splinter Cell fan. I love me some Sam Fisher. Double Agent and Conviction were ok, but strayed to far from what I want in a Splinter Cell game. I want lots of sneaking around shadows, hiding bodies, shooting out lights, etc. And Blacklist delivers on all this, but in a more sleek and brutal fashion. Though I still miss Ironside..

  • I mean, do I even have to tell you how great this game is?

  • You play as a giant boulder who looses his wife, also a boulder, to locals living below your mountain. This angers you so you roll down the hill destroying everything you see. If that sounds like fun..it is.

  • A game about being a paper pushing no name quickly grows into a game that tests your morals and values. One of the smarter games I've played, and it has a great art style. Plus the interacting with paper and objects is smooth and unlike anything I've played.

  • A fast paced action game, based in the mgs universe. Fun but short and a bit dumb. But in a good way.

  • Exploring a quiet house, alone during a rainstorm. Your sister is gone, and now you must find out why. Amazing game.

  • Never played this on PC, but got it for Xbox 360 and I am enjoying it still. Fun and polished, I think blizzard is one of the better devs out there.
