I'mma totally blow your minds

Black isn't a color. It's color is based on the fact that it has no color, but that's common fact, and totally not mind-blowing.
However, when someone is referring to a "colored person" they are technically referring to everyone BESIDES black people, as they are black, and therefore, not colored, while they are white, and therefore colored.

Since when were white people white anyway?

If you appear to be white my advice is... seek sunlight... or a doctor.

Because people aren't willing to be smart. "
Or because distinctions are sometimes useful or necessary. How would the porn industry survive if they couldn't tag their videos things like "XXX Latina Gangbang" or "Ebony teen takes it all"?

You should feel bad now.

Ahh this has always been a facinating subject.  The answer is... Black is the absence of color when color is perceived as light (also known as the Additive Color Theory). As such, from this perspective it is not a color.  However, based on the Subtractive Color Theory where color is perceived as pigment, black is the sum of all colors and white is the absence of color. So from this perspective black is a color. So... Black is a color, and it isn't. Just depends on how you look at it. :) "
Exactly what I was going to say. Well, this is a more informed version of what I was going to say, but I would've gotten the point across. I think...

But black/coloured people's skin isn't actually black. It's brown (sometimes to the point of being almost black, but never quite fully black). So "Coloured" is far more correct than "Black".

My mind remains fully unblown.

Wouldn't have said anything except for the fact you mentioned "grade 7 stuff there" which gives me the impression that you're saying "Duh, it's like this"... except you're only looking at it from one perspective and you're missing the entire Subtractive Color Theory argument, which I doubt was taught in your 7th grade science class, and if it was... why weren't you listening? ;)

Black is the absence of light, however there is no such thing as "true black". The closest we get to it is absorption of ~99.99 of EM radiation bouncing off something.

"Black people" are dark, not black. It's just a euphemism, "White" people are more lightish yellow/orange than white.

Black is perceived as such because the pigment of the object absorbs all visible light. White is perceived as such because the pigment of the object reflect all visible light. Colors are perceived when only certain frequencies of light are reflected, and some are absorbed.

So no black isn't a color, and this thread is ridiculously stupid.

@AgentJ:  You had it half-right, as did Damian who said the exact opposite.

Both work depending on which theory you go with -- yours would be based on Subtractive Color Theory, while Damian's would be based on Additive Color Theory.

Looks like topic poster read something in his grade 8 science book or something and thought nobody knew =P
I Suppose it could have been art too lol.

Anyways, black people aren't really black anyways, in fact, white people really aren't white at all, we are acutally transluent, thats why you can see your veins, and you can totally shine light thru your fingers lol.

OH ALSO, Who calls black people "coloured people" any more? That was an  1800-1900's term? It dissapeared around the time slavery did? lol. It stopped being relevant when asians, indians, native americans, and everyone else started becoming common.

So I change my mind again, you read it in a social textbook, or had your teacher tell you probably? I would assume anyone who reads things semi-often probably wouldn't expect everyones mind's to be blown by this.

"black" people are various shades of brown due to higher levels of melanin, also by your logic white people are also not coloured because white is also a shade.
