No, PS5 will play PS5 games and more than 99% of PS4 games, including PlayStation VR games, only.

Just wanted to throw out, this is a pretty great idea for a thread! There's definitely past GotYs I would have listened to at the time if I had done enough of my "homework" ahead of time.

I don't expect PS5 to have it based on what we've seen so far

but if it doesn't, I'm out on Sony hardware I think. I realize I'm an edge case, but it's that important to me.

I've got a lot of PS3 Digital titles more or less held hostage on old hardware, games that I bought with the assumption that PS4 would have BC

I'm sick of endlessly rebuying the same games, I'll just stick to PC where I can my digital purchases seem to last longer. Especially if Sony 1st party stuff now comes there. I can be patient

it's fresh to Gamepass and it's off to hot start with me.

Gunfire Reborn is another good new one kinda in the vein of Risk of Rain. Still in early access and it needs a lot of polish on production values, but it's well balanced and it's got its' mechanics and progression nailed.

Rogue Legacy, Abyss Odyssey and Dungeons of Dredmor are some of my other favorites I haven't seen mentioned so far.

I'm open to the idea, as long as I don't have to pay a monthly fee to things I've already purchased. Depends on what the offer and implementation ends up being ofc. I can live without all the fancy upgrades XB1 offers their players (modern resolution support etc) tho ofc they'd be nice. Just let me play them somehow.

I understand the likelihood of anything is small and that Cell Architecture isn't easy or cheap to deal with, even now. But this is definitely something they can/could offer if they feel like it. If I have to pay a onetime fee/upcharge for a different version of PS5, so be it. I'd do it.

lack of BC support is why I jumped ship to PC as primary this gen. That stung pretty hard to not have BC support on PS4 after I had put that kinda money into it. I'm not really interested in continuing to support an ecosystem much that doesn't respect my purchases.
