It was announced today that Squenix would be releasing Final Fantasy III as a launch title for the OUYA. This also comes right on the heels of OnLive pledging their support for the Android-based console. Even after its Kickstarter did so well, I've never really bought into the vision that OUYA's been selling. The Square-Enix sponsorship in particular, however, lends a good deal of legitimacy to the project. To me, the OUYA has gone from a joke to at least something to keep on my radar. It certainly hasn't sold me yet, though.

If third-party support keeps flocking to the OUYA, would you start to give a damn?

No, no, they're still (expertly) ripping off other games. Loot? Diablo 3. Combat? More Devil May Cry-like. Movement? Prince of Persia.

It's still very much Zelda with a gorier coat of paint, they've just taken some other colors and mixed them in.

It's funny how none of us have any problem with this simply because they steal from others so fucking well.

I have no problem with this. Minimalist gameplay is fine if it makes sense within the narrative context. The same works in reverse--Super Mario Galaxy is allowed to have a plain, repetitive, and one-dimensional narrative because the gameplay is so fantastic. A truly superb game would be able to deliver on both, but far too often I see good gameplay mechanics or good stories diminished by some sort of forced obligation to the other--better to excel in one category than come up short in both, in my opinion.

Ultimately, it comes down to expectations. If you buy a Cage game looking for a bombastic romp through Disney World, you're going to be disappointed. Take it for what it is.

Pretend the enemies are your mom. That should do the trick.

Ha, I see watcha did there. Man, I spend too much time on Giant Bomb.

Regarding the topic at hand however, I think that Gears multiplayer is superb. That's just me. The five default weapons are very well-balanced, and each are effective in their own ways if used properly. A big determinant of you winning and losing is how well you set up your approach. If you rush in without thinking a few steps ahead, then you're pretty well fucked. You have to pick map-appropriate guns, use your grenades wisely, and put up a fight to get the map weapons. Furthermore, Epic dealt with accessibility admirably, since you're barred from entering serious matches until you've got some experience with the maps and guns.

So keep practising.

Right now, it's something happening to my puppy. If the leash slipped during a walk and he got ran over by a car, I'd probably never forgive myself. He's like my kid.

I would probably have to throw my hat in with Battlefield 3.

Saw the thread topic, immediately thought: "He's in Street Fighter? What? How?"

I could've sworn I had a video game-related dream last night, but alas--I can't recall.

I do remember having Dynasty Warriors dreams years and years ago, though; just mowing people down as Lu Bu. Good times.

This is why people shouldn't render judgements from press show coverage alone. Dead Space 3 is a definite buy for me, and I have no doubt that it will scare the shit out of me.
