Rockstar Games publish many original (and sometimes controversial) franchises from their various studios around the world. They are most famous for their work on the Grand Theft Auto series.
your favorite rockstar game?
The only R* game I have is San Andreas. That is, until Red Dead Redemption gets here...hopefully today.
" Was gonna say San Andreas or Red Dead Redemption, but it's been brought to my attention that Max Payne counts as a Rockstar game? Hmm... "It shouldn't, but if that's the case then there's my answer. If not I'm going with RDR.
Traditionally I've usually said Vice City, but when I think about it, I think I had more raw fun with San Andreas.
Bully & RDR are indeed awesome, but GTA is truly outstanding.
" @Rhaknar: Max Payne 1 shouldn't count, because Rockstar had nothing to do with that one. But second one it was released by Rockstar. They didn't actually make the game I think. Not sure if that counts. "released (or published) shouldnt count, they have nothing to do with the development of the game
I have to go with Bully. It was a treat to play from start to finish. So well realised and so funny.
Regretfully missed out on Bully.
I'll go with San Andreas followed closely by RDR. Red Dead has the atmosphere and story with some excellent touches to push rockstar's games forward, but the missions and variety in San Andreas were too awesome. I spend like 150 hours playing that game. So much potential to just screw around.

A good and imaginative setting is more important the graphics, the soundtrack (bully has a better one, probably), or the voice acting. I'm honestly just shitting on it because people keep hyping it up, but it's still a post GTAIV Rockstar game... Not being confrontational, just wondering. The setting is the thing I liked least about RDR. I do not like westerns. It really had to be a game that is great in every other aspect to win me over. I prefer the settings of all other Rockstar games. Every single one. I like RDR because of the gameplay, graphics, soundtrack, voice acting, and characters. "" Red Dead Redemption. I was expecting more of that in this thread. "bully has one of the best settings i've ever seen in a game. RDR is a western "
Is setting more important than story and gameplay? Red Dead Redemption has both of those in spades. I'm not saying Bully doesn't, but RDR is one of the most universally loved games I've ever seen in my entire life. I know of nobody who has played the game and didn't like it, save perhaps Jeff.
" @Laketown said:oh no, bully has a great story (I'm not going to say it compares to RDR because obviously I haven't played it) and from what I saw in the TNT the gunplay looks extremely dull (not like bully's combat was the greatest either, but eh)" @inkeiren said:Is setting more important than story and gameplay? I guess I should stop talking about it, but GODDAMN am I tired of hearing of that game.

I haven't played RDR yet, since my x360 is away for repairs.
But I'll say San Andreas, since it was so amazing and lasted me so long when it came out. Generally I have fond memories of every GTA game ever made, least for IV (a step backwards gameplay-wise imo. Was a good story though.)
I've only played the GTA games and Max Payne and I have to say Vice City is my favourite. I just got 100% complete for the 6th time yesterday.
That's difficult to decide between GTA 1 and Manhunt because they're both so different. It'll probably end up being Manhunt for me - that is one of the most intense and challenging games I've ever played to completion while still enjoying my time very much! It's incredibly satisfying and well-designed if you can get into the stealth mechanics and sick universe.
I don't really consider Max Payne a rockstar game but it's certainly one of the best shooters I ever played. Don't know if it beats Manhunt though in terms of entertainment I got from it.
