This game is awesome.  One of the best impulse buys I'd made in a long time.

I remember this game. I have played the "NES" version. It was a cool game but hard.

Oh man I played Thexder on the apple II in my 8th grade math class. Too cool.

I remember reading gaming magazines as a kid and seeing ads for Thexder, thinking that game looked so bad ass. Not feeling this one though.

It has autosave, but really... it hasn't.

Yeah... pass. It is great that old style games like this can be offered to people that need that nostalgic itch scratched, but I have to say that there are better side scrollers for that particular itch. If only Square Enix would bring the old 16-bit Front Mission games over for us English speakers.

Holy shit, I totally had this game for the Apple II GS!  I completely forgot about it.  From what I remember, it's basically just like this version.  I remember it being a total pain in the ass to control your character.

Not exactly what I thought it would be, it looked like it had a metroidvania vibe to it in the trailer, but it turns out not to be.

I was a catalog Thexder supporter, myself.  I had NO IDEA you could change into a plane, though, or I would have bought it.

I'm okay that's it's framed in a PSP. But what I don't like is that it's a regular PSP. Jeff's playing this on his new PSP Go, so shouldn't it be framed in a PSP Go?

I know there was an NES version, but I feel like this concept would have been better handled by late-80s Capcom.

Seriously stop using the PSP overlay. It annoys me to death. Even Sony use it in official trailers for PSP games. Goddamn awful. Some black bars at the top would look less annoying.

Oi, don't call me an idiot you smeg head. I know it like that to keep the ratios intact and the picture from becoming stretched and distorted. But why a picture of a PSP. I know it's on a fucking PSP. Why not do what they do for PS2 games and have a frame around it. "

I had this game for my XT. I remember it being published by Sierra and it being pretty awesome, though I was only like 6 years old at the time. I remember there being a semi-sequel called "Silpheed" that was a top down shooter with upgradeable weapons and that was pretty fun as well.
 
I can't say I hold enough nostalgia for Thexder to buy Neo, unfortunately, and the quick look helped me confirm that it's a game I can afford to avoid... especially with that jarring sound that plays when you fire the laser.

I was hoping this would be like a better Bangai-O Spirits, guess not.

One for die-hard fans only. To everyone else, it looks like overpriced junk. Count me in the latter camp.

Because the handheld systems have different screen ratios from those of the consoles, so basically if you do not see a handheld border, then its on console, otherwise its a DS, gameboy, PSP, whatever. The idea is to keep the aspect ratio in tact on the site. See how the video isn't square? Thats because the video size is the same ratio as the TV, so its not stretched either way, but if you were to record PSP video and put it on the site, itd be stretched upwards so everyone would look really skinny and lanky.  So basically its just done for our benefit to keep the video looking proper and as you would see it if you were playing on your psp, its not to show what console its on. "
