I never played FF7, soooo, yeah.

I forgot how terrible the english voice acting was until now

I watched this with out playing a single final fantasy and enjoyed the action and that bad-ass looking dog. The story though went way over my head, something about astigmatism, i guess the people there have really bad vision. Also vincent is straight up batman.

Never playing FF7, I thought this movie was entertaining. Although I had no clue what was going on really with the story. Very anime-ish. It was still fun to watch though for the action.

As a big fan of FF7, fucking love this movie. It makes no sense, but like you said it is all I want in a movie about FF7. Amazing film, amazing episode of TANG. FF7 4 Life!

I should mention also too that I found Spirit Within more enjoyable. Mainly because it was completely separate from the FF series and really just tells its own story.

SE build an awesome graphics engine for this movie and for subsquent games. So I'm glad for this awesome movie that actually has a coherant storyline if you've played the game. The action sequences are great too, it's perfectly fine to defy gravity in a setting based on fantasy anyway.

I didn't like this movie at all. It was very pretty though.
Personally, I would have loved to see more stuff involving FFVIII. I thought it was better than 7.

I think this review was kind of pointless, he say's he's not a huge fan of FF7, says its a "fan service" type of movie, so why is he even reviewing it? I love how he questions Sephiroth coming back, and Aeris coming back, as if that was a huge suprise. They were shown in freaking trailers and the box art for the movie!!

Yeah, the movie definitely does take itself pretty seriously, but it was, indeed, very entertaining all the same. Probably one of the few notable game-based movies worth watching...more than once even.

Unlike what others seem to think I think FF The Spirits Within was a good movie and better than Advent Children. I don't know what people were expecting from Spirits Within, but to me it was exactly the movie I thought Hironobu Sakaguchi would make. AC is all about "Hey look at this, you totally know this dude from that game you played and loved all those years ago" and fighting, cool fighting, but still looks like some collage student's graduation work or something "Hey man I'm totally gonna do this fight in super hi-res and it's going to have Sephirot and Bahamut and it's going to be AWESOME, F-ing awesome!" I would almost call it fight porn. Maybe I'm just getting to old, but I prefer more story and less braindead action from movies these days. Not to say that Spirits Within was great in story, but it was at least okey and it had it's moments.

I'm sorry, but as a person who never played FF7, but still wishes he could go back one day and enjoy it (most probably in some inevitable remake, since the graphics are now beyond ass), this movie doesn't look interesting in the slightest. But that's okay, it wasn't made for me, so I can accept that.

As a fan of the original game, I would have preferred the FF7 remake on the PS3 more than this over-the-top lame anime-like movie. While that is asking for a lot more than what we got already, it would have kept me liking Final Fantasy 7 much more if Tetsuya Nomura didn't screw up the already awkward but enjoyable story with even more stupid anime stereotypes.

This movie just really ruined the "magic" for me.

Haha, but ReTarDedFisHy definitely enjoyed Advent Children because FFVII is his game of all-time, but without a doubt, there's definitely a disappointment attached to Advent Children. ReTarDedFisHy just hoped it would have been "more", you know?

Nice!  Glad you covered this movie.  Have you showed the FF Movie yet?  The one that tanked so badly?  I just decided to watch both that movie and Advent Children last week since it had been quite some time since I first saw them on DVD and actually enjoyed both of them.  They have their fair share of weak points, and the FF movie is considerably different than the games, but I actually liked it this time around. 

I've seen Advent Children twice, and while I thought the plot was weak in comparison to FFVII, I thought the cinematics were amazing, and something that could be appreciated by fans of advanced computer graphics and over-the-top animation.  The music was actually pretty good and memorable.  I've had this song play in my head occassionally the past couple years that I couldn't picture where it was from, but it was from FFVII:AC.  This movie was by far the best FFVII spinoff.  Crisis Core was decent, but the gameplay was boring and the new characters weren't as memorable as the FFVII heroes.

The FF game plots are actually good.  I think the problem lies with the fact that most people can't get past the character designs and judge the game as a whole based on that.  Many RPGs feature better plots than the FF games, but it's rare that I see games in other genres even come close.

The movie is much better with the Japanese voices and English sub imo.
