I thought the game crashed :P but it was the giantbomb player... I hope they fix it soon, it looked great and I'm very curious what happens in the rest of the video.

weird, mine seems to be working, even on the crappy internet here. I'll see if it needs to be compressed again.

It's weird that he says he's sending in a UAV to scout out a position, and then he starts calling the action an air strike, as if those are somehow the same thing :)

The time still counts up but the image is frozen and there's no sound, for me.  Just another version of incomplete, I guess.  Weird that it worked for you, Vinny.

Is it me or does MAG look boring, i dont see anyone switching from Modern warfare 2/Cod4/Killzone 2 to this game. Its so generic and relys on teamwork and since many PS3 players dont use mics is there any point?

As a gamer brought up on Quake I will never be able to get into things like this. I envy those who can.

So far the only thing that sets this game apart from other online shooters is the number of players. Other than that I don't see anything about this that makes me believe it'll stand out from the crowd.

Since it's coming from the original Socom guys, I will give the game the benefit of the doubt.

So it's a large scale game of battlefield but call me skeptical because I think lag is still going to be a big issue for this game.

I prefer being able to know my enemy, gives you a better sense of competition against actual opponents.  with this, im sure it will feel as if they might as well be bots.

I always get excited by the idea of an FPS with hundreds of people at once...but reality always seems to bite my ass. Just looks too chaotic IMO.

@Vinny: Shame you started the video there, the big holy shit moment of this demo was the part that happens about 5 seconds before where it shows the gamerpics of the guys in your squad, and then everybody elses squad and then the enemies squads.  That's where the number of people per game really hit me.

Sounds like they're doing a lot to try to combat the whole lone-wolf players that every shooter ever has.  Rewarding people who are actually helping, if only TF2 did that a little better.  I do enjoy games with large scale battles, knowing that the APC you're taking cover behind is controlled by a human player is a pretty awesome feeling in Battlefield style games.

My ALL TIME favorite shooter was Command and Conquer Renegade from years back. It was the first game that implemented an over all strategy into an fps. Running around killing each other meant nothing. Everyone would break off into a small group of 4-5 people and try and come up with a strategy to take out an enemy building. Take out the Power Plant and every thing they buy costs x2. Take out the Tiberum Factory and they don't get any more steady income, which lets you wait them out. Take out the Warfactory or Barracks and no more tanks or advanced units. I have NEVER had as much fun then I had with that game. This looks to be the closest game to re-create that experience. It's just sad that its on the PS3 and not the PC, where shooters are meant to be on and can actually be enjoyed.

This game is certainly ambitious, but it only takes one laggy connection to ruin a match, and if there are 256 potential laggers...

They are probably be hosting it on servers instead of peers individually connecting to each other, similar to what resistance did.

Overall it just seems like a really big Battlefield game, now if only players would actually work as a team...

you're a complete moron if you think Zipper would release this game if ONE laggy player fucked up the game for the other 255 players!  Also, this is made by Zipper, again, the guys behind SOCOM. Working as a team is something they pretty much pioneered in online gaming. They know exactly how to make people want to work together. And as clearly shown by this demo, and the gameplay demos i've seen on other sites like the stage demo on gamespot, team work is ace, even if you just a loner type of player.

I'm excited for this game, but damn this demonstration could have been better.  Seriously it was just a step by step guide of how to take an objective really; we didn't get to see some real action and how the gunplay is.

Duno. Part of me wants to be optimistic, but there's a voice in the back of my head that whispers "controlled demo reflecting little of what the game will actually be like". It could turn out fine but.. seems on one hand ambitious with the 256 players bit and the objectives, but on the other hand looks very "battlefield clone but on a PS3 and not made by people who make battlefield games". Also think about how solid it's going to have to be in order to retail and not have a billion issues.

My issue isn't about the tech. It's more that i'm simply bored with this "real war" bullshit. This kind of game is just not for me, no matter how many players there are. Kind of like how COD4 is undeniably a cool game, but it just has limited appeal for me. I don't think war is cool.

Also, how realistic is it to always have enough players going? If this game suffers a dwindling userbase, it's going to be way more noticable than in "smaller" games.

Regardless, cool tech

Don't know why, but this game reminds me of Section 8 ;] Also I really like the idea of gaining experience for killed enemies.

I think video games have war themes, not so much because that's what people want to see, but because it offers a simple form of conflict.  You need some kind of conflict for a video game, to create competition.  A FPS, where you point and shoot at the enemy, is a simple game mechanic that everyone can understand.  I'm not a war-mongerer, but I do like the visceral feeling of shooting people.
