Gekkoukan High School

Overview

Gekkoukan High School is the school where the main character and his fellow SEES members attend. Here, the player can study to increase academics, get the highest score in an exam to increase charm, and even increase courage by visiting the nurse when tired or sick. The player can also interact with most of the game's Social Links here, by attending Student Council, or joining a specific sport or an extracurricular activity of choice. This school, unbeknownst to most of its students, transforms into the mysterious, Shadow-infested Tartarus during the Dark Hour period. Only the SEES members, as well as other persona-users know of this phenomenon.

School Entranceway

Students enter Gekkoukan High School from here. Many of them hang out here after school when waiting for rides, dates or classmates. Doors lead to Gekkoukan's main lobby.

1st Floor, Main Lobby

The students' lockers are by the entrance. Straight ahead lies two displays, and the Kirijo Group motto beneath it. It reads: "Two in harmony surpasses on in perfection." There is also as taircase leading to the 2nd floor, as well as the school store, which contains the following items, available in random days during the school year:

• Crab Bread - 80 Yen
• Fried Bread - 80 Yen
• Melon Bread - 100 Yen
• Tri Korone - 100 Yen
• Fried Soba Bread - 120 Yen
• Cutlet Sandwich - 300 Yen
• Book Cover - 5000 Yen

The left side leads to a hallway. Students can talk with teachers and counselors at the Faculty Office on the left side, and consult with Mr. Edogawa in the Nurse's Office when feeling sick. The player can study in the Library right across from the Nurse's Office, to increase knowledge. Restrooms are also available in this corridor. Right side is where most of the school's extracurricular activities are located. The Home Ecomomics Room, Science Lab, and the Laboratory are on the left side of this corridor, while the Music and Art Rooms are on the right side. The end of the hallway contains a staircase to the right, leading to the 2nd floor, and a door to the left that leads to a corridor where the sports clubs reside. Students can join the Kendo Team, Swimming Team, and the Track Team.

2nd Floor, Hallway

The second floor is where most of the school's Social Links are available during school days. This is also where the juniors' classes are located. Class 2-F is where the main character, Yukari Takeba, Junpei Iori, Aigis, Kenji Tomochika, Kazushi Miyamoto, and Ryoji Mochizuki attend. Class 2-E is right next to it, where Fuuka Yamagishi and Natsuki attend. The Student Council Room is right across both classes, and the PA Room next to it, where school announcements are held. Restrooms are also available on this floor.

Rooftop

According to a recent school survey, the Gekkoukan High rooftop is most favorite place to hang out by its students, mainly because of the greatest view of Tatsumi Port Island can be seen from this location. The main character also hangs out with various social links here.

* Note that whatever team the player joins, the Chariot and Strength Social Links will be established. Kazushi Miyamoto and Yuko Nishiwaki occupy these arcanas, respectively.

• Boxing Team - cannot be joined; Akihiko Sanada is the only known member, as well as being its team captain.
• Fencing Team - cannot be joined; Mitsuru Kirijo is a known member.
• Archery Team - cannot be joined; Yukari Takeba is a member of the team.

• Fashion Club - this club is not well recognized, not to mention they are using the Home Economics clubroom. Bebe is the only known member of this club.
• Student Council - Mitsuru is the president, while Hidetoshi Odagiri is the vice president, and Chihiro Fushimi is the treasurer. The main character joins as a representative when Mitsuru asks him to join.

• Kenji Tomochika: Junior year, Class 2-F. Found sitting in the classroom. Magician Social Link is available Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
• Kazushi Miyamoto: Junior year, Class 2-F. Located inside the classroom. Chariot Social Link is available Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The player can either talk to him or access whatever club room they join.
• Yuko Nishiwaki: Junior year. Can be found near the 2nd floor staircase, close to the PA Room. Strength Social Link is available on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
• Hidetoshi Odagiri: Found on the 1st floor, outside the Faculty Office, or by accessing the Student Council Room. Emperor Social Link is available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
• Chihiro Fushimi: Sophomore year. Located right outside the Student Council Room. Justice Social Link is available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
• Keisuke Hiraga: Senior year. Located near the PA Room on the 2nd floor. Fortune Social Link is available on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
• Bebe: Transfer student, junior year. Located in the Home Economics Room, or just outside Class 2-F. Temperance Social Link is available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
• Nozomi Suemitsu: Junior year. Can be found hanging out at Paulownia Mall. Moon Social Link.
• Aigis: Transfer student, junior year, Class 2-F. Located sitting inside the classroom. Aeon Social Link (only in Persona 3 FES) can be established on 1/8. Available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
• Ryoji Mochizuki: Transfer student, junior year, Class 2-F. Can be found inside the classroom occassionally.
• Mitsuru Kirijo: Senior year. Located on the 1st floor, right outside the Faculty Office. Empress Social Link can be established on 11/21. Available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Story

It is first featured in Persona 3 when the player first transfers to the school. His dormmates also attend Gekkoukan High, and during one incident, he awakena his "Persona", a manifestation his inner psyche. He also discovers that his dormmates have the same extraordinary power to summon their own persona. The main character then joins the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad. They are dedicated to fighting the Shadows, the main enemies of the game. But they can only fight them during the mysterious Dark Hour period, and inside the dungeon-crawler Tartarus, which is the transformation of Gekkoukan High only during the Dark Hour period. But during the day, the SEES members attend the school like every other normal day. As the school year rolls on, they eventually meet new members and make friends with other students. But as they make their way towards the top of Tartarus during the Dark Hour, they start to uncover the truth about their mysterious origins.

Origins of the Dark Hour

Mitsuru Kirijo's grandfather was the one mostly responsible in creating the Shadows, Dark Hour, and Tartarus. Extremely obsessed with the power of the Shadows, he sponsored a project that would experiment and amplify the mysterious power of the Shadows. They held the project inside Gekkoukan High School itself. But the experiment took a turn for the worst, and thus, the Dark Hour began its existence, and the school always transformed into Tartarus only during this time. When the SEES members are successful in vanquishing the twelve main Arcana Shadows, they unknowingly put the pieces together to form Death, the thirteenth Arcana, as Shuji Ikutsuki deceives them. They also find out that Ryoji Mochizuki is the equivalent of Death, and the reason for his existence was to summon Nyx and bring about the Fall.

Final Battle

Undaunted, the SEES members make it all the way to the top of Tartarus on the promised day, January 31st, and fought Nyx. After defeating her, Tartarus, Dark Hour, and the shadows, cease to exist. Peace is restored in the world and everyone goes on with their daily lives. Everyone but Aigis and the main character forget the extraordinary events they experience during the final battle. But when Graduation Day comes, the other members remember they would meet on the Gekkoukan High rooftops on that day after they defeat Nyx. Only to discover, the main character dies in his sleep as he lays in Aigis's lap.

Other Games

Gekkoukan High School is also featured in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4. The protagonist and his classmates from Yasogami High School spend their class trip at Tatsumi Port Island, and on their first day receive special lectures with Mr. Edogawa on the Gekkoukan campus. Chihiro Fushimi, a Social Link character featured in Persona 3, is now a third-year student and the current president of the student council. This puts Persona 3 and Persona 4's storylines in the same universe, about one year apart from each other. While at Tatsumi Port Island, the Persona 4 characters also visit Iwatodai and Paulownia Mall, also prominent locations in Persona 3.
