Overview
Marines are the core infantry unit of the Terran military and always tend to have a stereotypical southern accent. They are mostly government trained soldiers and militia but some are outlaws and renegades who are forced in serve time in the military instead of in prison. They have heavy (and very bulky) power armor, the standard CMC-300 or CMC-400 , which extends beyond the extremities of their bodies. To compensate with the weight they carry, Marines have special Gravity Boots, that not only allow them to move quickly but also to jump fairly high too. In StarCraft II they are equipped with a Balistic alloy combat shield for extra protection. Their C-14 rifle does a great deal of work handling the grunts of the enemy army and in large enough groups can take down even tougher foes.
As a respectful nod towards the similar looking marines in the movie Aliens, clicking enough times on a Marine will result in him saying a line from the movie: "How do I get out of this chicken-shit outfit?"

STARCRAFT II

The biggest change about the Marines in StarCraft II is mainly that they are slightly beefier, especially with their new Combat Shield upgrade and their is no longer an upgrade for their increased ranged (it simply starts out longer).
