I want to see a statement from EA soon. But damn that guy really wants to keep his job, he plays a good riddler I guess.
Holy crap, go to the EA forums right now
wow, still not cleaned up. Also, the Trollz are getting reall creative:

Wow, these are some amazing developments, Chuck!
That's right Barry, it looks like EA and Activision are now officially neck in neck in the "biggest dickhead publishers in the universe" contest.
Couldn't have said it better Chuck, I really can't wait to see what they'll do next! Here's Sarah with your nightly weather forecast; Sarah?
It's because Sony are implementing this like two years down the line. Their lack of foresight is the real problem. They're trying to make something happen, that it wasn't originally supposed to do. If this is true, and they did get it to work with 95% of the games, it must be agonising for Sony. Ok, it should have been there in the0 first place, but if they've practically patched it in to the whole backcatalogue... And now EA are saying - "no" - I mean Sony must be pretty pissed too. It can't have been an easy task in the first place." So... my question is why, if Microsoft can get a system in place that works with all games, can Sony not do the same, assuming that this is true? Doesn't that seem a little weird? "
The guy cites implementing the in-game XMB as a massive hurdle. But they did it. GAFFERS have noted that of about 6 or 7 games that don't support in-game XMB, most of them are from EA... But if they didn't cry about that, why are they so worried about this?
Surely Sony has someone who can find how to make it work? Honestly, EA has something of a case to me. To have only your company's games look bad because Sony doesn't want to take the time to make it work with all titles probably would hurt them. I'm sure this is one of those things not supposed to be leaked because it's still being negotiated, and this fallout is now just going to come back to bite Sony.
I think the idea is that when Xbox 360 developed and coded the dashboard, voice chat and custom music sound tracks were there already - independent of developers - guys at Microsoft had these two features ready and working day 1 on release. So that when a company is developing a game, if something in the game code makes the game crash during voice chat, or while music is playing, its something that the developers have to find a solution to, not the people at MS, because those two features were there first. The developers are forced to work around Microsofts pre-existing Dashboard service, and make the game work with the systems already in place on the Xbox - otherwise their game would look like shit, and developers would get blamed for it.
Because Sony didnt have these functions straight out the door when the PS3 released, developers (unless they specifically wanted custom in game sound tracks in their games) didn't have to worry about it, because the features weren't there at all. Sony wasn't forcing them to code around an already implemented system.
Now that Sony is trying to introduce these features, they are finding that some of the code in the potential Firmware updates is breaking the way some games work, which is pissing off developers (in this case, EA, if this is fact) because their games will look shitty if their games can't be made to work with the entire back catalog of all the PS3 games, worse still if other games work, but one particular catalog of games from a specific publisher really don't work - crash even, when you try to use these new features while playing.
I may have mis-understood the issue here, but this is what I took away from that guys forum post.
I see your point, it is Sony's fault because they should have had the foresight to have a way to implement stuff like this easily in the future. But if EA are cockblocking just because old Need For Speed games don't run anymore -- well... That kinda sucks too.
Either way I think people are putting too much faith into a forum post. Yes, he got virtually everything about the Slim uncannily correct, but that doesn't mean he knows everything.
From his post: "There was no way of getting it to work correctly due to the way their game was made (i.e. Poorly) and we certainly couldn't leave a broken implementation in there."
If I were Sony, and this were true, I'd be saying to EA, "we think this functionality is really worthwhile, we've got working with virtually everything apart from a few of your older games, if you allow us to go ahead with the update, we'll help you patch your old games so they work". That has to be the solution right, if this is all correct?
I guess I'm still not clear on the feature set being discussed. I know soundtracks were in from day one, but didn't cross-game party chat only come with NXE? I remember it being game-changing for Chromehounds, which I assume means it comes out later. So are you telling me that Sony can't get the same games to do the same thing as Microsoft? Or are there details I missed stating it's ONLY soundtracks that don't work? This just strikes me again as another example of one company being software specialists with hardware trouble, (microsoft) and one company being hardware specialists with software trouble. (sony) I assume the games are multiplatform, and I can't think of any situation where the game code would be different enough to warrant it not working on PS3 if it does on 360.
" @Novyx: But that's not what the guy who started this is saying. It does work. According to the guy it works with 95% of the back catalogue. He states that it's poor programming on the development side that's stopping the remaing 5% from working. He also states Sony have been working on it for months now, so they're clearly putting the work in. I see your point, it is Sony's fault because they should have had the foresight to have a way to implement stuff like this easily in the future. But if EA are cockblocking just because old Need For Speed games don't run anymore -- well... That kinda sucks too. Either way I think people are putting too much faith into a forum post. That has to be the solution right, if this is all correct? "From what I gathered out of that post, they made it work with those 95% of the games, and wanted the last 5% to have that feature disabled, at least for now. Those games would still work as you know them to work, but would not have this new custom soundtrack and/or voice chat, and EA basically said "if we won't have it - no one will".
IDK, I think Sony should just talk it out with EA and go through with it. Sony doesn't want to lose EA, one of the bigest publishers in the world, but I think EA doesn't want to lose Sony too. The 360 is holding strong, but the PS2 and PS3 base is still pretty big. I can't imagine that the money put into making everything work won't come back to them.
...but maybe I'm just naive...
Hey man, I wanted to reply to this because it's an interesting point. Your idea makes total sense, is perfectly valid
and is one of those things whereby we could only hope that they would have this type of attitude - but usually, big corporate environments, do not.
I'm not sure how old you are and if you've ever worked in a corporate environment, but let me break down how this works. ( I don't really know everything, but I do know this much)
People who can solve problems in companies, rarely get to talk to each other right off the bat. First we have meetings. Meetings are attended be senior management, and executives. By and large, despite the fact that these people are in some way shape or form intelligent human beings, they are mostly technological morons. They don't know how computers work, they don't know what hurdles they would face in patching these games or the firmware, and frankly, they really don't give a fuck either.
What they do care about however, is the following:
Is it making money now?
If we do this, will it make us money?
Will we have to spend money?
Is it working?
Are customers complaining?
So what they would be faced with is the following:
The 5 % of games that don't work with the update are likely old - they are pretty much no longer making significant amounts of money.
If they take the time to patch in these features and fix the game to work with them, because the games are not making money anymore due to age and possible market saturation, this will not make them any money.
They will need to hire, or move around resources to make this implementation work. They lose money because they are paying for people to work on a project that will not bring in any significant revenue.
They worked on release, so yes, it working now and therefore no one is complaining.
The implementation of the system Sony is proposing would break the game unless the spent the money on patching, and therefore people would complain - shareholders, and by extension executives, don't like it when customers complain.
All of this, in essence, results in a massive and collective "fuck you" from senior partners and managers, basically throwing the whole idea out the window.
This is the sad state of back office corporate bullshit - it sucks, but that's how it is.
The whole thing started at the N4G-forum, and everybody there is pissed at EA. It's probably the N4G-community, which is trolling the EA-forum.

The guy who posted the news about EA, is probably not the real Super_Secret, who came with detailed info about the PS3 Slim, before it was announced. After he had posted about that, he wrote:
"This account is gone, never to logged into again. You might see me in a few months time when I've got something even more awesome to tell you, but it wont be from this account and it probably wont even be on this site. Adios!"
EA management really needs to turn things around. The important thing is some of EA's developers are actually producing good games.
After he had posted about that, he wrote: "This account is gone, never to logged into again. You might see me in a few months time when I've got something even more awesome to tell you, but it wont be from this account and it probably wont even be on this site. Adios!" "Good for him. He's taking a lot of chances as is, and after he revealed that it's EA (encrypted, yes, but still) he's seriously burned. He has to flee the ship.
Just look up the posts on the EA general discussion forum. The mods are deleting threads as fast as they can, but stuff still manages to get through. I, for one, am amused. :D
p.s. I especially like the polls rofl
@TheKing said:" Well that seals the deal, sony fan boys are by far the worst. Dear god bunch of babys. "
The point is that a major publisher is preventing a very highly requested feature from being released. Do you think 360 fanboys would have reacted much better?" And this proves my point. Sony has the worst fanboys ever. "
Also, what the hell is a 'babys'? The plural form is 'babies'. Someone needs to go back to 2nd grade.
I should know, I haven't left.
" @TheKing said:If there was a raid on Activision's boards, hell I'd probably join in. They've ruined Guitar Hero. That's simply unforgivable." And this proves my point. Sony has the worst fanboys ever. "I bet you'd be doing the same. and besides, EA deserves this, I hope PC owners do the same to Activision for making MF2 60 bucks on their platform. "
Ok let me get this straight...
Sony was dumb enough to not include cross-game chat in the PS3 in the first place. Now they are finally implementing it, but certain games from EA don't work with it, and appearantly EA is not happy about that so they're refusing to accept the new firmware update?
I don't know, this sounds like one of those things where someone catches a slight whiff of something, and then proceeds to blow it way out of proportion without knowing the full extent of the story first.
