Has a redesign ever drawn you back to a site?

I don't know when they rolled out a new design, but I'm loving the new, uncluttered, look of the site. I haven't been on there in quite some time because I just couldn't stand the previous redesign, which made everything look like a chaotic mess. This new (I wonder just how new it is) look is a sight for sore eyes, and I actually find myself checking out the website regularly again now.

Has a new design for a website ever managed to pull you back in?

P.S. What's the proper spelling for that word? Re-design, or redesign?

Redesign is right.

Giant Bomb is the only site I've spent a lot of time on except for GameFAQs, so I can't really say.

I think redesign is the proper spelling for it.

As for the question, well it has to be a pretty drastic make over. I normally like new looks and all so I've never been put off by one as far as I can remember.

Usually redesigns draw me away from a site.

Parts of G4TV.com are much better than they used to be.  I've increased my traffic to the site since they overhauled the webpage and hired better people to run things.  Before the change, I think I visited the site three times since 2004.

A website redesign is far from a shallow matter. A good redesign doesn't just make a website look prettier, the real important thing about a redesign is making content more accesible and organized. A bad design can plummet a website into content chaos, making it hard for a user to filter out all the noise in an attempt to find what really matters to them. As a website grows bigger and features more content a redesign is almost inevitable. Unfortunately some web sites want to display almost every piece of new content on their homepage, which means that if there is a lot of it that things become messy, cluttered.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that a (good) redesign is far more than just a new coat of paint. A bad design can really hurt a website's traffic, whilst a good one can increase it.

Just look at Kotaku. It's a total mess.

Dont fix it if it aint broke

If the site is fine the way it is and they change it , that drives me away.
If the site is messed up and they change it it draws in!

@creamypies: I actually don't think Kotaku is all that bad. I find Gamespot's design to be far worse by comparison. There is just an information overload going on there.

Exactly what happened in my case with Gamespy. Their previous design was a mess, so I stayed away; this new design is a lot cleaner, which has drawn me back in.

I usually take a trip back to have a look at it. But I've never been permanently drawn back to a site because of a redesign. I've never stopped visiting a site because the design was bad, it's always been because of the content or the community.

Yes. This one actually. I was getting annoyed with the Black, white and grey ad I was thinking of leaving the site, but then the new design came in and I stayed.

@MrSnow: Shhh, I'm actually a spy for the Giant Bomb crew. So much so in fact, that they don't even know it. But don't tell anyone, it's a secret.

Not that recall. If I like the site, I like it. Redesigns are just cherries on top.

It could do. I think Gamespot needs a total overhaul, currently I find that sites design to be shockingly bad, it seems to be designed by idiots who have no idea about clean and clever web design  - I have no idea when my friends are on, it's glitchy and cumbersome and frustrating, it's feature set is weak, I cannot add Youtube videos - I hate the site as a result, it's just so annoying to use, I find myself getting angry it's so bad.

@Kazona: Either ones work, according to my handy little spell checker.

No, redesigns don't draw me back to sites. They could, however, make me love the site more.

Gamespot just had a huge redesign this past holiday season. But it is still outdated by Giantbomb standards, technology wise.

Nope. As a matter of fact, redesigns normally draw me away from websites. I loved Gamespot's design pre... 2005/2006? Whenever they made the massive update a few years ago, the prior design was awesome. Ever since then, my activity and interest for that website began to dwindle. They really need an overhaul, too.

Design isn't the top priority, has to have good content too.
