IT turns you into an idiot, can cause you to crash your car, causes hangovers, i could go on. what is there in drinking thats worth all that
What do people see in getting drunk
I couldn't say. I have never drank and I plan to keep it that way. I just don't see the point. People think you can't have fun without it for some reason, I think that's stupid. Wait, wasn't there already a topic about this?
Getting drunk affords you the illusion that your life is better than it actually is. But, it's all a lie and you realize that the next morning which leads to regret, fear and shame. Since those are unpleasant feelings, you then need something to quiet the pain and more drink is the answer. The cycle goes on for years until you either end up in jail, dead or standing before a group of other saying "hello, my name is..."

Drinking makes so-so girls hot, and fugly girls so-so. Beer goggles serve for the betterment of mankind.

I would say there are as many reasons to drink as there are drinkers. For me, I know, I drink because it is a way to relax with my friends. I never drink by myself, because I see no reason to, and the only time I drank to the point of throwing up was one time I was already sick and the alcohol was a poor choice on my part. I drink to celebrate special occasions (the first time I ever got drunk was at a wedding,) and I drink because quite honestly, I enjoy the tastes of some alcoholic beverage.
Yes, there are alcoholics in the world, and yes some people need to seek help. But to suggest that everyone who drink is an addict or is destroying their life is pretty ridiculous.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to rob a convenience store to support my bourbon habit.

I like how everybody is ok with drinking, yet the guy who made the thread about his smoking habit got crucified lol...double standards.
I drink precisely to have fun and/or get wasted. General rule of thumb: Don't stop until you're over the toilet. That's if it's liquor anyway, beer is just delicious. Mmmm. A lot of people can't handle drinking or being drunk, or just don't enjoy it. That's fine. A lot of people turn into assholes when they're drunk, but I get even more goofy and laid back than I already am, so it's a good thing.
Post above me by the way, makes absolutely no sense. You can't have your cake and eat it too, buddy!

If you can't go a day without a drink, you have a problem. If you need to smoke a cigarette every ten minutes, you have a problem. And if you get fired because you're constantly late for work because you need to grind that last quest in WoW at 4 in the morning, guess what? You have a gaming problem. No, it isn't as common as other addictions, and its fatality rate is relatively much lower. But too much of anything and everything can be a bad thing.
edit: my apologies I was actually applying my comment more to the person you replied too. I agree with you mostly.

It helps to also realise not everyone who drinks alcohol is suddenly going to turn into an abusive drunk. The people who do that are usually idiots when sober anyway, the vast majority of folks understand how to drink responsibly.

Yeah.. I don't get drunk anymore either. I just don't like the buzz that much. :S
I do like the taste of certain kinds of liquor, like beer and whisky. But I don't like getting drunk on it. I just get a headache and sit in a corner. Or I drink to much and go to sleep somewhere. I must be weird.

The only side effect I usually have from drinking more than usual is that I can only sleep for about four hours afterwards. I don't have a hangover, I just suddenly am wide awake at 6 in the morning and there's nothing I can do to get back to sleep. It is really kinda bizarre.
I think some people have moved off the topic. The original post was about getting drunk not simple social drinking or enjoying an alcoholic beverage. I think he was trying to understand why someone would purposely seek to inebriate themselves to the point that they are barely in control of their faculties. That is a level far beyond a few beers with your mates at the pub or a couple of high-balls with colleagues after work. Getting drunk, habitually, is a sign of a problem and it doesn't have to be getting drunk everyday. There are "binge drinkers" too who just drink from time to time, but when they do they get drunk. I know getting drunk is fun and funny, but it is still a sign that you may have a problem with alcohol. And, if you've ever had a blackout, then you do have a problem because that is far from normal.

Some people have deep founded issues, and use drinking as a coping mechanism. These are the type of people you label as alcoholics, and they often stay that way until they confront the underlying problem.....which in my experience is rare. I know it is hard, but instead of looking down upon a person like this, try to sympathize. I am pretty damn sure they are not happy with their life style and would like nothing more then to kick the addiction.
But a lot of us are social drinkers. We do not intend to get shit faced then drive on the freeway......merely relax and enjoy our time with friends. If the topic creator is trying to crucify those who are social drinkers, all I can say is get a life. Just because you don't do it means it is bad? Learn to not transpose your silly beliefs over others, it tends to make people look like fools.
Oh yeah, and like somebody else said.....beer goggles. Nuff said.

I've never drank an alcoholic beverage because, well, I'm not of age. While I'd be prepared to say "I'll never drink until I come of age." I remember that I also said "I'm never going to smoke pot."
I think there are a lot of people out there that "drink" because they think they're supposed to. Like, it gives them a greater sense of worth.
And yes, people are entitled to do what they want, but in many ways I hate this common concept that you can only have "fun" if you're pissed.

For a fun night with Friends :)
Anyway, I'm leaving this thread because I have strong views on it; but I also appreciate that others have different ones. Whatever, unlike smoking, the whole drinking thing doesn't affect me, so I have no reason to rant.
