There's no question that we had a certain amount of goofy fun in the Giant Bomb offices with You're In the Movies--Zoë Mode's Xbox Live Vision-enabled party game that would stitch your ridiculous on-camera gesticulations into a short movie trailer--when it came out last year. We've seen plenty of camera-based games in the past, but You're In the Movies really capitalized on the fact that people usually look like idiots playing them. The real problem was that the background-scanning technology just wasn't quite up to the task, making it a pain to set up, and even when it worked, it was pretty fussy and prone to hilarious errors.
In a surprising twist, apparently not a lot of people were terribly interested in paying $70 for a half-busted game that made them look like idiots. Today, while cruising the aisles of the local Best Buy while Jeff completed his Vin Diesel trifecta with a copy of The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, we came upon a shelf filled with copies of You're In the Movies selling for $20 a pop. Seeing critically panned games that got lost in the holiday shuffle being sold at a deep discount isn't too shocking, but consider this: the game comes bundled with the Xbox Live Vision camera, and on the other side of the aisle, Best Buy is selling the camera on its own for $40. By my complex maths, this means that You're In the Movies is so undesirable, that its actual value is -$20. Bad news for You're In the Movies, Zoë Mode, and publisher Codemasters, but great news for anyone looking to pick up the Xbox Live Vision camera on the cheap.
It's worth noting that this deal isn't limited to Best Buy stores, as it can be found on their website as well, and Amazon is even selling the same package for a dollar less.
