Extra Life, an annual 25-hour video game marathon that raises money to help kids at Children's Miracle Network Hospitals has been running for a while now and is truly a great cause. I've been doing it for the past 3 years and live streamed it every year (sometimes for 29hrs). With the help of the Giant Bomb community last year we raised a crazy $27,601.44. This year I've set the team goal at $30,000. I know what you're thinking, that's a lot of money but I believe in us! On November 2nd 2013 We'll attempt to play an 25 hour video game marathon and it's our hope that you'll support us with a donation that will go directly to that team member's chosen hospital.

If you want to get involved go to www.extra-life.org and during registration select Giant Bomb as the team you would like to join or if you have already registered go to this link (http://www.extra-life.org/team/giantbomb) and hit join team. Post the link to your fundraising page / live stream (If you're doing one) and I will update the table below with a list of charitable duders.

Where can I watch all this delicious madness?

Good question! @chaser324 has made this amazing site http://www.explosiveruns.com/. Here you can watch all the community streams, chat and customize it however you want!

Do I have to do a live stream? Not at all! Live streams are purely optional and are not a requirement for Extra-Life. If you don't have the means to stream but would still like to participate I encourage to still sign up and raise money #4thekids

What if I can't commit to that date or the entire time? The idea and spirit of Extra Life is that everyone pulls together at the same time, but we know that’s not going to be possible for everyone. Don’t let a commitment on the 2nd stop you from joining. Just do what you can and make up the game time later. What matters most is the time you put in BEFORE the event to raise money for these kids.

What if I can't finish the full 25 hours due to commitments or exhaustion? If you won’t be able to finish the whole thing, you can make up the remaining hours later. It’s all on the honor system and what really matters is that we’re all raising money for a great cause. Your sponsors should know they are supporting the cause whether you crash on hour 18 or not.

Oh and also, its 25 hours this year not 24. My team are going to try and start at 7am not 8am to keep this from becoming too painful.

Woah, I should see about fixing my streaming so that I can broadcast a segment. I remember past ExtraLifes and it would be great to be an active part of one.

Any chance of pinning this at the top of the forums so more people can see it ? @chaser324

On topic i wish GB will do something again for this years event.

I may do this. I won't know till closer to the date. Seems like a good way to end this gen and finish off anything left I have to play on the old consoles.

#15 Posted by Happenstance (492 posts) -

So you guys that have also done it before, do you do it as part of a group or on your own?

First year I did it I was on my own and I found it really hard with nobody else around from about 3am onwards. Ever since then I always travel to whoever is hosting's home to do it with my team.

I didn't participate last year as I had an idea in my head I wasn't able to follow up on and I'm not sure if i'll be able to again this year. I've only done it once and only raised $100 which was largely from a couple of duders and a few close friends and family. It was a very lonely experience even with a couple of people watching and talking on my channel. I do live in London (UK) and I'd be open to participating in someone elses stream though if someone would have me (I could feed you pizza while you play).

Just updated the original post with all the links you charitable duders have provided. I didn't know Extra-Life was 25 hours this year, exciting :D

Cool. Sweet. Dope.

Check your PMs, duder.

I'm probably going to hijack your stream, @matt. And there's NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO STOP ME because your room doesn't have a lock!

I'll be naked the whole time.

My friend and I wanted to play fighting games for this, but we can't commit to 25 hours...How hard is the hour rule? If we can only do like 14 hours do they take the money away?

#25 Posted by Sweep (9748 posts) -

@matt: So a standard wednesday, then?

Just make it clear to your potential donors that you can't make the 25 hours. Extra Life can't/won't/isn't going to reduce your donation total because you didn't hit the mark, once someone donates, they've donated. Every little helps.

This could be an interesting way to maybe clean up a game or two in my backlog. Plus, the children. I might be end up doing this.

I'd love to do this this year but do I have to live stream it or can me and a few friends just get signatures and drink beer in my living room all night?

A live stream is not required at all! Drinking beers for the kids seems like a fine way to raise money :D

There are still 3 halo games for drew and Alexis to complete, the kids demand it

I am still trying to come up with a good streaming idea. 24 hours of horror sounds fun, but taxing. Any other ideas for a theme?

#35 Edited by Christoffer (2099 posts) -

Sweet, I will try to remember this. Also, I don't think Rincewind and Fattony have the right donate and stream links.

#36 Posted by CynageN (1206 posts) -

I'd like to participate in this but I don't have the means to have a camera on myself, are camless streams alright?

#37 Posted by dekkadekkadekka (772 posts) -

I may participate, if I can get all the bits together for my theme and work out how to stream HDMI over the internets.

http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=52756That's my page, I'll post a Twitch channel when I have one/ remember if I had one.

Side-ish note: If you donate to my page, I'll do a half way decent photoshop of you in whatever way you want. Just provide me with an email address in the little message to me when you donate, and I'll contact you for the information on what you need. No requirement on amounts, whatever you donate you'll get the photoshoop. I'm not incredible at it but I'm pretty decent. Request whatever you want! I don't really have any limits, as long as it's like, legal.

#43 Posted by Nickieroonie (160 posts) -

Would it be considered kosher to stream an emulator for this type of event? Like if you wanted to stream a SNES game for example.

#44 Posted by Chaser324 (7181 posts) -

@nickieroonie: Emulators are all over Twitch, so I don't think it's a big deal. Just keep it classy and don't do it in a way that promotes piracy or anything.

#45 Posted by alwaysbebombing (1859 posts) -

So, steaming is not required? I could play The Sims 3 for 25 hours. But I don't think my computer could handle streaming the entire time.
