Definitely.
Should Swearing Be Allowed on this Forum?
It should be allowed because it's the way that some people choose to express certain emotions or just to talk at all.
"Unlike other gaming forums that I've come across swearing is allowed and tolerated. Is this right considering there are quite a few minors on this site."I don't think it should be allowed so excessively. And no, not because of the minors but because it's offensive and annoying. I think we should try to keep this site to stuff you can see on TV, at least when having a civilized conversation.

Dude, really?
Society has reached a stage where everyone knows what the word "fuck" is by about the age 10. A child will have witnessed 8,000 murders on television by age 12, and 200,000 by age 18 (statistics sourced from here). Considering the average age of gamers is apparently 33, I think being worried about swearing is a little patronising. We have reached a generation where it has become acceptable to be openly crude in many forms, and as a result I dont think we need to impede the expressions of GiantBomb users.
But I understand its a tough call because there are always going to be young kids playing videogames as well. All I can say is, its not really Giantbombs responsibility to look out for them, and there are lots of other websites with lower abusive tolerance levels. I like to think that the gamers I meet are passionate enough to be mature in their approach, and articulate enough to explain themselves without swearing, but unfortunately the anonymosity of the internet brings out the worst in people. Simply enforcing a black and white rule makes things a lot easier to mederate, but at the cost of restricting the atmosphere of the site.
yea. However flaming isn't.
Saying "that f* sucks" is okay but not "you f* suck"
That being said, if it gets out of hand (like gamespot would) it should be censored. It realy hasn't gotten close to that point yet.
"As long as it doesn't get out of hand. Sometimes free speech can lead to a bunch of jerks getting on and throwing racial slurs all over the place and that has already happen, but I think most of us are mature enough to handle a bit of hard language."
I fully agree
"systech said:At the same time, those bunch of jerks are not likely to make many friends and everyone will probably just ignore them. We don't need censorship because of people getting offended at something they're letting offend them."As long as it doesn't get out of hand. "We intend to cover M-rated games on this site in a frank and uncensored manner. It seemed sort of backwards to do that and then go and try to have a squeaky clean community, especially when that just leads to people attempting to game whatever filters you've put into place to get their swearing across anyways. I feel like we've placed a lot of our trust in people with this site and its rules, and so far, it's been going pretty well. But I'm not so naive that I don't realize that as this site grows, people will feel a bit more anonymous, and we'll probably have to rethink many of our rules and processes as that happens.Yes. The last thing we need is another sanitized, gestapo Gamespot where I get suspended for 7 days for calling somebody's comments "complete wankage" !!!!We've currently decided to draw our line at pornographic content. If the community can't handle cursing in a manner that at least occasionally resembles maturity, we'll move our line. I'd rather not have to do that, though. Because then you wouldn't be able to properly discuss the interview we shot today with Mike Wilson of GameCock when it goes up in the near future."
It depends. If we are mature about it I think swearing is ok. If your a immature young kid is could turn pretty bad.
So yes I think fucking swearing should be allowed :)
Yeah, really, if you're the type to get offended by words on a screen you really shouldn't be posting on the internet. And, just to clarify, when I say words, I mean the words not the context or the phrasing. Fuck looks like fuck and means fuck wherever you put it or however you type it.
"lol are your fucking kidding me? Those minors are probably the ones fucking cussing the goddamn most"if XBL is our guide then yes :P as well as the most references to "Gay" and "retarded". nothing is more bonoxious than hearing a 12 year old go "UR RETARDED" down a mic
