December Vita lineup and upcoming titles

So, I've been compiling this list of upcoming Vita titles on my blog for a while, and I guess it's gotten to the point where I thought I might try sharing it with the world. It's grown rather large, with over 50 confirmed upcoming titles in North America and Japan. I've chosen to focus on North American releases, since that's where English language releases usually happen first, though there is a section for Europe only titles.

The Unconfirmed/Vaporware section is for titles that haven't been officially announced, just rumored based on ESRB ratings or the like, or ones there haven't been any news about in a long while. The Japan section is at the end, now split between released and upcoming titles. It is for titles released in Japan with no western release announced.

Notable recent additions include the 2013 edition of Sony's MLB The Show baseball games, the Trials Evolution inspired Urban Trial Freestyle, Nicalis' Binding of Isaac remake, Dead or Alive 5 Plus, and two previously announced titles I'd managed to miss - Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD and space combat sim Starlight Inception.

Aside from the current month, release time frames are mostly unconfirmed and frequently subject to change. Download titles in particular are hard to pin down since they usually don't get a firm release date until 1-2 weeks in advance, so there might be more this month (like Knytt Underground which has already been announced for December release in Europe).

Anyway, on to the list...

No release date, but GungHo has said they're bringing it over early next year.

I just don't see anything on that list that is going to make me buy a Vita, I'm really hoping E3 next year can prove otherwise.

Heh, I'm actually hoping Senran Kagura is decent gameplaywise. While I compared it to Dynasty Warriors in the list since that's the more well known title, it actually looks more like Sengoku Basara, which I played to death on the PS3. Hopefully it'll get localized.

What is it lacking? Keep in mind these are only the games we know about. Sony is likely courting more indie developers for games. It isn't the RPG haven that it should be, but that could be changed if companies like Namco Bandai weren't in the hole and could translate the games they already released on the platform.

@GooieGreen: Persona 4 is definitely the one game that I really want that's currently released on the Vita, but I just can't reconcile in my mind spending a few hundred dollars to play a remake of a PS2 game.

There are a few interesting titles in there, but nothing that seems like a real system seller. At this point, I'll probably do the same thing I did with the PSP and just wait to buy one near the end of its run...which might not be that far off.

It really all depends if these are the kind of games you want to play, but interesting is a good way to put it. Persona 4 is a pretty damn good system seller if there is one for the platform, but what kind of game are you expecting? Tearaway has the potential given the pedigree of the developer behind it.

The life of the Vita depends almost exclusively on Sony's ability to keep the PlayStation brand alive. Since Sony is such a bad spot right now, the Vita side of SCE might be the first to get axed. Still, they invested so much in it and it is still moderately popular. I'm not sure how well they expected it to sell in its lifetime but I can't imagine they had huge hopes for it.

@gla55jAw: You were basically getting All Stars and AC3 for free though on top of the 6 PS+ games. That's the best deal you'll ever get, as my hippie friend said. Gravity Rush alone was worth it. That games so much fun. The 4 GB card is shitty but you can transfer the Vita games you beat back to your PS3 and when you get a larger card, just transfer them back. It seems like a hassle but it goes by pretty fast. That's what I'm going to be doing until those cards drop in price. Also, just adding stuff to your cart in the PS Store doesn't do anything. You have to "purchase" them and then they go to the download list. If you just put them in the cart, they go away when you exit the store.

You're probably right, although whenever I buy All Stars for PS3, I'll also get the Vita version for free ;) You are making a strong case though.

As for putting games in the cart, that's what I meant, actually purchasing them. Thanks for the clarification though.

Well, as long as you "purchased" the free PS+ Vita games, you have nothing to worry about then since your buying All Stars for PS3 anyways. But it was still the lowest price you'll probably ever see it for. Or you could've got it and then gave the code that comes with All Stars to someone and then bought PS All Stars!

Thanks for the list. I'll have to look through these games to see what I'm interested in. I know I'm going to get Tearaway, no doubt about it. It's what sold me on the Vita, plus, that $180 Amazon bundle was a steal. I might see if I buy Oddworld: Strangers Wrath. I heard it 's pretty good. But I don't know. Right now, I'm not sure if I should buy Sound Shapes, Retro City Rampage or wait for Oddworld.

Nevertheless, I'm enjoying the hell out of my Vita. The only reason I turned my PS3 on this week was because I wanted to play and beat Spec Ops. I'm having a blast with Gravity Rush. PS All Stars and Mutant Blobs Attack are my go-to games when I'm in bed. Even though I already beat Blobs.

This list is the exact reason why I cancelled my order for the $180 AC bundle. I still want it, but I go back and forth to the amount of games I need to play (Persona 4: Golden) and the games I want to play. I'm still tempted, but I'll probably wait for a price drop.

Even with a modest price drop it will never be as good as that Amazon deal was. That was the time to grab a Vita if you were waiting for any kind of price drop.

Maybe in terms of actual money spent (I do think the inevitable price drop will be a bundle for $199-$219), but not necessarily in value of purchase. Eventually, AC and PS All Stars will be $15-$20, or potentially free with PS+. And after adding a case, a few games, and a larger memory card (4GB is a joke), I was spending over $300.

Like I said before, there really is only 1 game I really want it for, and I can wait, because it's not really worth the huge investment. My whole initial interest was because I have PS+ and all those games are free, plus Persona. That being said, I would have pulled the trigger and bought it, if it included a larger memory card, or if those memory prices weren't are ridiculous as they are.

@Indiana_Jenkins: I thought about doing that, but I decided to limit the list to titles that are presumed to be in actual development for the Vita. That's why Bioshock Vita isn't there either, since it was just Ken Levine saying he had a concept for the game, not that someone was actually making it. Besides, the Hotline guys are active on twitter, and we'll probably know very quickly if the deal comes together.
