Eh... They're the expected scores as far as I'm concerned, good to see it lives uo tp expectations. And Nintendo doesn't run those mags.
Anyway, good game or not, HVS has done things all other developers should have. The way they use friend invites, how the game uses the Wii's friend codes as opposed to a new set, the customisable controls, voice chat implementation, etc. Those all should become standard from now on at least, since multimillion dollar corporations couldn't achieve it yet a nobody independent developer does it all on their first real try. Meh.
Did it ever cross your mind that, and this may shock you, the game might not actually be the second coming of Christ/Half Life, like desperate-to-play-something-different Wii owners have been making it out to be?
" Why do people consider anything less than 9 a bad review? Fuck sakes. "Indeed, this is a strange development of the video game review system. Unless a game gets a 9-10 reviews score it is somehow considered "bad". This is entirely untrue. If you'll look at just about any review score a 5 is Average and anything above is better and better. The Conduit is no doubt going to be a good game. It is not a perfect game. Very few games are.
"The best pure first-person shooter on the Wii"
Jesus Christ, I never knew Nintendo Power was capable of being so savage towards a video game.
So it just seems like a god shooter...(whisper) for the Wii. Those are good scores, assuming they aren't out of 1,000. Too bad I can't actually read the review. What's the game all about, anyway? Ign's Nintendo team keeps raving about it, but looks average to me. However, it's doing some smart things with custom controls.
" @Pie said:Takes a LOT more than controls to make a game good." Why would i get this and not a high quality fps for xbox/ps3 though? "If the gun aiming controls are solid, I bet it'd be more fun than a 'high quality' (you mean graphics, yes?) FPS on the other consoles. "
" @Diamond said:Well I think people have judged the game on the theme and story elements that have been revealed so far, but it will take playing the game to find out most of whether it's good or bad, yea.Takes a LOT more than controls to make a game good. "Sure, but we can't speculate on anything except that its controls (how they work, not how good they are) and graphics. So my point was that we can't bash this game yet because we don't know enough. "
" Did it ever cross your mind that, and this may shock you, the game might not actually be the second coming of Christ/Half Life, like desperate-to-play-something-different Wii owners have been making it out to be? "Al3x and me are the biggest Wii defenders on this board, and both of us have very little to say about the Conduit. He's hyping it a little, I think, saying it could be "decent", I expect it to fail critically AND have no personal interest in the game. At all.
Scores aren't that bad, if your looking for really good looking games the Wii isn't the spot to be looking. Other wards seems like it will be a good 1st person shooter not excellent but good.
I hate scores for video games. I don't really think you can score them out of 10. If I ran a reviewing site i'd probably go for medals, so Platinum for Excellent games, Gold for Great games, Silver for Very Good games, and a bronze medal for a good game. If the game wasn't good, but not bad it'd get a reef or something, and then as we slip into the bad and disgustingly bad game they'd get something else...I haven't thought that far into it.
I think saying '5/10 is average' is a bit off. Personally I feel the majority of games out there are good games, a 7/10 if you will. So a 7 is average in my books - that's not saying it's average in terms of inbetween good and bad, but average in terms of it's in the catagory that's most populated, 'good'. However, I don't go by this 100%, as I said I don't like reviewing games with numbers. I just read the review.
And on The Conduit, 76 and 80 would fall in my 'good' to 'very good' catagory, so there's no hating from Nintendo there.
I really never expected much out of the game. It's been hyped like crazy by dedicated Wii owners, but it's never really looked so hot to me. I'm actually kind of glad it's not getting very good scores, because I really wasn't too interested in playing it.
I don't get why people think anything below 85-90 spells ''BAD or NOT GOOD'' for a game, it just seems to me people don't even understand review scores, what's the point of having them anymore.
Examples: Twilight Princess got 8.8 on GS and people were fucking furious over that, and MGS4 got like 9.4 on GT and even then people were pissed.
"Well, their not bad scores, just not very good ones."So by your own admission, they're not bad scores. Hell, they're not average either. They're above average. They're in the "good" to "very good" range. How does that in any way equate to "hate"?
" Its a Terrible game. Those scores are way too high "
" Why would i get this and not a high quality fps for xbox/ps3 though? "you shouldn't. its nothing special, its just maid for pure wii owners. either way metroid prime is WAY better.
