E3 '14 Lockdown Megamix Ultra Hardcore Edition

In between all the hot jams, the shirtless shenanigans, the beefiness of Beef, the dancing Teddies, the fighting Reggies, the girl wood, and all the feels (I hate myself for saying that), there were some games announced or demo'ed at E3. Here are some of my favorites of the show.

List items

  • I loved Dead Island. I even really enjoyed Riptide. So the news that we're getting a new Dead Island on top of te already Dead Island-ish Hellraid and Dying Light makes me one happy camper. Plus, I really liked that CGI trailer. Good stuff.

  • One of my all-time favorite adventure games is getting remade? I'm fuckin' in, you're fuckin' out!

  • Mauii wowee, this game! That gameplay demo was astoundingly cool, and the CGI trailer was pretty neat to boot. Really looking forward to more Far Cry.

  • I hear people complaining because this looks too much like Halo, or Destiny, or both. To me, that's excellent news. I love both those series and seeing them get mashed up gets me all hot and bothered.

Plus, that hawt PS4 bundle. Rawr.

  • Original IPs from Nintendo are a rare breed these days, but this looks like a riot. Paintball meets King of the Hill gameplay? Yes please.

  • I haven't been excited for a COD game in a long time. I am for this one. The sci-fi elements look neat without being too crazy. It looks freakin' gorgeous, and most of all, it looks like there will be ways for me to see the baddies. WOO HOO!

  • I wish this game was coming out for everything, and not just the Wii U. Looks so meaty and good.

  • It looks gorgeous, and hopefully, it continues the excellent narrative and characters set up in prior games.

  • This game had a hell of a showing at E3, and with good cause. The underlying gimmick is fantastic, seeing your enemies gain ranks for killing you. This is the first Middle Earth game I've been excited for in a long, long time.

  • Looked pretty good. Maybe not quite as gorgeous as I'd hoped, but man, I'm looking forward to a big ass quality Bioware RPG.

  • Okay, so it's cheating listing an entire company here. But Nintendo's showing surprised the crap out of me. They've failed to address their core problems for years now, and while third party support is still nearly bone dry, they've manged to bring some water to the parched. I still see no reason to buy a Wii U, but for those who have one, I'm a little jealous of the great looking games you'll be playing next year.

  • It's exciting to see this get a cool little teaser, but it's super hard to get more of a reaction out of me without gameplay being shown. Undoubtedly, this will be a cool showcase for the PS4, but will it just be more of the same?

  • Getting to finally play Halo 2 seems cool. Getting to do so on a modern console with smoother graphics and three other great Halo games to play as well? That's just gravy. This looks like a fantastic bundle.

  • Here we start to get into territory of games maybe not featured in the big showcases but that still look great. From this point forward, I would consider this list unnumbered. Abyss Odyssey looks like a teriffically well-animated platformer. Looking forward to seeing more of it.

  • It was shown for about two seconds in MS's conference and that was enough to still keep me interested. Fantasy Dead Island? Yes please.

  • I'm still not entirely sure I'll be able to enjoy this one due to the night environments being so hard to see, but boy, it sure does look fun.

  • We've known about this one for a while, but that trailer was effective. Looks like more solid Xillia action... RPG. Shaddup, my brain is fried.

  • Holy effin' crap, that art style!

  • A Level-5 action RPG that kinda sorta looks like Rune Factory? I'm in.

  • I will buy the shit out of this on PS4.

  • If you haven't played the original yet, this is a great little indie game that's quite unlike anything I've ever played. By infecting various nations in a Risk-type map, you earn points to upgrade and modify your virus to infect and kill the world. It's a ridiculously addictive game, and surprisingly difficult at times.

  • This looks like a Left 4 Dead type multiplayer game. That's about enough to sell me on it.

  • Looks gorgeous. I'm all for third-person actioners if they look this good.

  • The Batmobile seems unnecessary, but man oh man, this looks fun.

  • We were given only the briefest, most tantalizing gameplay details, so I'm reserving judgement until I see more, but for now, consider me cautiously optimistic.

  • Hey, I'm all for an arcadey, highly customizable jaunt across a fictional US. Wonder if you can paint your cars all Forza like, though?

  • I still want to see more of this game, though what we've seen looks really good (if very canned).
