Your main point was that mods lock too many threads. How do you propose to constructively discuss that without examples?

If users used the gosh darned search button or reread their topic before posting it wouldn't be a problem. If anything the mods should be locking more threads, just my humble opinion.
Okay, believe I'm spinning it however you want. My point still stands. If you truly want us to improve the way we moderate, then we're going to need a few more examples and suggestions, otherwise you're not really helping.
And system boards are dead because we have a forum for EVERY SINGLE GAME since games were created. Not to mention how many people are so lazy that they just toss threads into general discussions... or even off topic.
If more people would use the Wiki specific boards to discuss games directly instead of dumping them in either General Discussion or the board of the platform said game(s) will be released on then we would see a lot more activity. The problem is now that you make a topic in General Discussion and it gets overlooked by a flood of other topics all being dumped into that board.
We could adjust our stance to this and start locking all topics about specific games that get posted in General Discussion or Platform boards. Then you would have a big reason to call us 'lock happy'....

Yeah, I know what you mean. Lots of people on this site are avid fans of RapeLay, yet the forum has only one topic which hasn't been active in an eternity and a half. I feel your pain, brother. I really, really do.
I'm not going to waste my time or yours going through that list, but my general message is that you guys should just let things flow more often, because many of the forums are 'dead' enough as it is, and that sucks. This site needs more users and you can't just shut things down just because the topic creator may seem like a bit of a noob. This can really turn people off ever visting the forums or maybe even the site again!"

Most of the locks are understandable, but I've seen a few that had chance for discussion go to waste. I think the only issue is that there is not a set of rules in a thread somewhere, so the mods just go by gut feeling. I kind of love/hate that, but it's hard to find some clarification because of so.

The Wii board was fine, and if you made a topic for the reason of bumping it above the hamburger thread that is a pointless thread which deserves to be locked. (I understand its not the case but it sure sounds like it)

The empire got lazy after they killed the jedi. They thought they were all powerfull and no-one could stop them. Their weakness became exposed, and boooom, Ewoks took advantage of it.

Since this thread has turned into a star wars discussion, maybe now it will be locked for being off topic? Again with the name of this topic showing a lock next to it would be a great ironic screenshot.
Ideally this forum would have more traffic, but I'd rather have 50,000 knowledgable users than 100,000 idiots, and I think that this site has the former right now. The site will grow slowly over time, and hopefully will avoid the flood of dumbasses that permeate the forums of Gamespot and IGN. Besides, I have a feeling that the vast majority of stuff that happens here would be deleted quite quickly.
There are times when lock is done prematurely, but it's rare. The forums are not dead. It's a beautiful day in internet land and since it's a slow week, some people are outside enjoying that.
OMG! The mods are quick to lock topics that need to be locked quickly? BLASPHEMY!!! They should let everyone possible spam that shit for post counts first!!!
Seriously, the mods here are fair and just in almost every occasion that they lock something. If it's something that you disagree with, PM'ing them will get you a better response than posting up a forum topic on something that has been discussed numerous times before this thread.

We don't just lock things for the sake of locking, and if good discussion is going on, we encourage it.
