The final update for the Street Fighter II series that introduced Super Moves and Akuma.

Overview

Super Street Fighter II Turbo (often called Super Turbo or ST and Super Street Fighter II X: Grand Master Challenge in Japan) is the last iteration of Street Fighter II in the 1990s, developed by Capcom. All 16 characters from the last game return with minor changes and new moves. The big new thing introduced in this one is Super Combos in which a character can unleash a devastating move for huge damage such as Ryu's Super Fireball, Zangief's Final Atomic Buster, and Bison's Knee Press Nightmare. The speed ramped up again since Super SFII returned the speed to a slow pace compared to Hyper Fighting. Some characters stood out from the bunch as high-tier ones like Balrog and Dhalsim.

To this day, Super Turbo is still heavily played at a tournament level at big competitions such as the Evolution Championships in the US and Tougeki Super Battle Opera over in Japan. To balance the game further, a remake was released on November 25, 2008 called Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. The remake was developed by Backbone with the help of David Sirlin, a tournament level player, who served as lead designer overseeing the project.

Super Turbo was included in Capcom Classics Collection Vol 2 as well as The Street Fighter Anniversary Collection released for Xbox and Playstation 2.

Characters

Akuma

One of the surprises in Super Turbo is if you are able to reach M. Bison without losing a single round, Akuma will appear and kill Bison with his Raging Demon attack, and then face you! Akuma plays like Ryu and Ken except with Air Hadoukens, Teleports, and multl-hit Dragon Punches and Hurricane Kicks. He is even playable, but a long and difficult combination is required for that to happen.

Old versions

Another hidden feature in Super Turbo is the ability to play as old versions of the characters. This is basically their Super SFII version compared to what is offered normally. Using them allows slightly more damage, but no supers.
