Every Game I've Beaten (That I Remember)

So somewhere in the darkness of the late 90s, I decided that the breadth of games that I had gone through merited a list. Perhaps for absurdity's sake, perhaps to try and convince myself to kick the "childish" habit; whatever the case, I now have proof positive that I've done some dumb things in my life, I'm a proud (and old) gamer, and I wish to share that very madness with the Giantbomb community.

List items

  • So I forget what convinced me to buy a Dreamcast, but I did, and I got this. Now I assure you it's nostalgia, but I remember loving this game somethin fierce. Maybe it was cuz it was the first Sonic game I owned, maybe it was the multiple character playthroughs that blew my mind at the time. But I basically got every emblem in this.

  • Well I'm glad they cleaned this up again. Felt pretty bland toward the end though. But that's my fault, cuz I need to stop playing every single one of these.

  • Squandered physics in a shooter against 5 types of enemies? No thank you...and yet I played it.

  • Finally a proper Kirby game! Hits all those simple platform parts of the brain with all those lovely Kirby powers. May be my last Wii game.

  • An oldie but a goodie! This was great to go back and bounce around in. Solid game.

  • Another one in the bag. I like to think John Morris is Zack Morris' grandfather.

  • A way better sorta-Mega Man-y game than I thought! Although the bosses were pretty tedious.

  • I feel like I need to go back and play 1 again, cuz the guards in this game were cake. At least they just had a final boss-ass final boss. Interested to see if they continue the universe. I mean they have to, right?

  • Now this was a much tastier iteration! Even the Love Rap.

  • Definitely better than the second, glad I knew about the crap at the end beforehand though. I'd really like to see a direct sequel to this rather than another totally unrelated Fable.

  • Went back and finally played through this. Graphics aside, this game really holds up! A great little game.

  • Now here's a silly, fun FPS! Weird, guns that're all great to use, and a messed up world that's ripe with ways to kill people. Did they even have to make Steve Blum's character look like Wolverine too?

  • This was real enjoyable. We need more Nintendo games that stretch out the few characters they have into crazy new genres like this more often.

  • Helluva game! Fixed everything that I griped about with the first, and boy that ending was something to behold.

  • A little less patient with the riddles this time around, but this continues to be a solid franchise.

  • Damn good followup. The city looks a bit city being completely riddled with...um, riddles, but everything the first game didn't have, the second provided.

  • Well I was able to finish this one, so they definitely figured out how to make this work. Not as full of wonder since they already proved that their tech works, but hey, did it.

  • Just enough crazy platforming in a real sexy art style to make this more than worth going through.

  • This game put me over 60,000 in achievement points. A great direction for a franchise I was bored of without even touching it. Conceits galore, but that's what makes it mindless fun!

  • This is a good workup for me to get to games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim. Not a ton of exploration, but a real solid scavenge-y FPS RPG. Would've made way more of an impact had Borderlands not existed.

  • A classic. Imagine Mario 64 but with tons of kooky British humo(u)r and way more things to collect. The variation in level designs and goals and the amount of moves available to you made it a joy to keep playing and playing.

  • Talk about underwhelming! Yeah, the art style's really neat, but it's just a half decent puzzle-platformer. I'm just glad it wasn't any longer, otherwise it would've really rubbed me the wrong way.

  • Alright Bethesda, ya got me. I tried Fallout 3 and it just didn't get me. But this, this worked. You strealine the WRPG stats in a way that I can get behind, just the right kinda info to get where you're going and for what reasons. It's pretty, it's unexpected. Walking in one unexplored direction for an hour is such a weird and fantastic sensation.

  • I don't really get the meter part that well, but it's a solid Sega game, enjoyable.

  • Took me six years to get to it, but I finally felt like I needed another full Zelda in my life. And I'm glad I did. for some reason the first few hours of this made me walk away from it for over a year, but I came back and really enjoyed it. Now I just gotta see how long it'll be until I wanna get to Skyward Sword.

  • The changes are there, but it's Mega Man X to the core. Definitely easier though. And who even cares about playing as Vile?

  • Wasn't sure if I had beaten this before, so I went through it again just in case. Yep, that's Kirby!

  • A running theme of recent games, but that sure was a God Of War game! Added almost nothing to the story short of a little cute "oh, that's how they're gonna explain that myth. hm"

  • A little lackluster, but a God of War game for sure.

  • Finally got into this. It was good! Pretty identical systems to the portable KH games, but that's fine, I liked those. Story fell apart and came together so much that I stopped caring. Don't give Sephiroth characterization!

  • Stupid fun with friends. Only good with more than two, otherwise it's just collect the gems to win

  • Basically the same, a slight couple of tweaks. Awkward boss fights

  • Never played one of these before, it's good! What's with the pornish pic for an ending?

  • Most boring, repetitive of the bunch. Definitely limited by the PSP

  • A PS2 Assassin's Creed. Glad it was short, almost satisfying enough.

  • A fine tutorial for the game. Sadly these games don't hold my interest like they used to.

  • A fun game that knows how to do quick right.

  • A kiddie version of the original. Still Mega-man frustrating in some places, embarrassingly easy in others.

  • After not having the right equipment to beat the last boss and not wanting to try again, I finally got through both of these. Glad I did, this series has a bit of a grind, but I'm still a sucker for the action RPG.

  • Took 70 lives to get through the whole game, then another 80 just for the final boss. Still not as hard as I thought it'd be. A good old fashioned platformer scratch was itched.

  • Well that got weird. Thanks for that Fez-like experience without spoiling it Brad!

  • Played this once Patrick kept talking about it. Phoenix Wright + choose your own adventure. Kinda let down by how messed up the game's logic was, but good.

  • Eh, needed something low-key to do that wasn't sudoku.

  • Went on the easy path, finally beat the stupid thing.

  • It's match 3, it took like 15 minutes, what do you want?

  • The same damn game, even more so than the usual KH. At least the PSP one I have left seems not as bad.

  • Glad I took a long break from this game. I actually enjoyed coming back to it. Totally forgot the story beats, but cmon, thats not the point. Becoming a tiger, that's the point.

  • Pretty good, missing something though...Jak I guess?

  • I like how the guys went from military lingo to grunts and curses. Really good way to show how messed up this all got. Forget Arkham Asylum Batsuit degradation, these guys got torn.up. Shame it didn't have a bit more gameplay-wise, cuz that would've made this fantastic instead of just a fine game with a great story.

  • A step up from Edge of Time, but needs some of the Shattered Dimensions creativity. Rhino, Scorpion, Vermin (who?), Iguana (who?!) and Smythe's Spider Slayers as most all the bad guys? Woof. Take a year off guys. Spider-man needs a break. Yay for open worlds again though!

  • My expectations were almost too high after that first level (the next few felt like a pittance. But the simple story got me and I loved how stupidly fun this all way. Might even break protocol and get the Part IV DLC for this bad boy.

  • Short, story's very disposable, but serviceable gameplay. Felt like the Rosario Dawson/Brian Cox video game too. Was this some movie script that they decided to make a video game instead?

  • I wrote the entire page for this on Giantbomb. So yes, I liked it. Not the best RPG ever, but I think it deserves a bit of credit for what it tried to do.

  • Sort of a drag compared to other Castlevanias.

  • Fantastic game, creepy vibe, messed up everything.

  • Better than I thought! Stupid, quick, but for what I paid, it was fun!

  • Quick, dumb, glad I didn't pay too much for this.

  • Boring and repetitive despite a good mix of bad guys. At least twice as long as it needed to be.

  • Alright, at least it wasn't exactly the same stuff. From what i hear, they have no excuse to not make KH3 after the 3DS one.

  • Dragging my feet in this franchise now. I don't think this has anything to do with the quality of the game, just the annualization of 90% of the same concepts. I hope AC3 gets me more interested, otherwise I may start getting outta this franchise.

  • Cute, varied enough gameplay, and short enough that I didn't get tired of it. Final boss was a pain, but what R&C/J&D game doesn't have an awful final boss?

  • Now that was a damn fine game. Loved the ending as it unraveled, a tad disappointed that they didn't have a different flavor to their story, but still a great ride!

  • Cute sense of humor, pretty quick. No complaints here.

  • You got lucky Activision. Just enough of this subtle decision-impact to make this game worth going through. Bet you can't pull this off again though!

  • My first foray into this franchise. I liked it! All the holds and counters get pretty intense, but it felt good. This confirms Virtua Fighter as being dead last of the big fighting games.

  • A little improved over the first two, I think I may've even liked this one?

  • This obviously wasn't a Parasite Eve game until halfway through development. Story made zero sense, but it was short and fun enough that I'm just satisfied enough.

  • Weird! WEIRD! Great middle-of-the-road game though. Not enough games like this.

  • Done in a couple of hours! System's just fine, there's just nothing...GREAT in this.

  • This wasn't on my list! Better than it had any credit of being.

  • Way worse story than the original. Main character is a complete joke, didn't even care about a thing. Still decently fun though.

  • I am a bona fide sucker for this franchise. Played this almost immediately after Seven, no regrets. Still a great franchise.

  • What a stupid conceit. Stupid fun

  • Despite the great visuals and neat art design, somehow still more boring than the Call of Duty franchise. Good on them for making it a more personal story, but who cares?

  • Wow 'Mr. Dream' was a pain! Getting a little bored of current stuff, and honestly have few other games interesting me lately, so I might as well go back and experience some suffering.

  • There's a quick game that I would've loved as a kid. Let's hope the new one is a bit longer.

  • I think I'm starting to get sick of Joker. There's SO many other bad guys, just pick another one! Anyways, great fighting game, although the Star Labs mode got boring fast. But hey, more not-Mortal Kombat!

  • A 2013 playthrough, likely one of the last new SNES I'll play. Good! Dunno why it wasn't quite as enthralling as the other two in the trilogy. Story was really neat/weird, then sorta devolved into a normal JRPG.

  • That wasn't that fun to go back to. I can see how this COULD be a classic to some people who grew up playing the first few levels. But playing through this whole thing? ugh.

  • Didn't even know this game had an ending. Well, as much of an ending as Tetris does. Instead of a rocket ship, you get the virii on a tree.

  • More of the same and I apparently can't get enough. The gameplay, both the tactical shooting and the politics of conversation, both continue to satisfy. Dunno what the big deal was about the ending. It was fine.

  • Not as bad as the last couple, but still chasing after what the original had. The "everyone's kids fighting!" concept is goofy, but at least the characters play differently enough.

  • Skipped 2 since it looked identical to 1, and I'm glad I did because even though it's been years since I played it, this felt farrrr too similar a game. Almost didn't play through it after a couple of hours, but it did enough things to keep me interested in the gameplay, then the story to the end. Still, middling at best.

  • A cute couple of hours. Tiny bit funny.

  • Good game in the franchise. Sorta hovers between a prequel and a reboot as many do. Ninja Theory does a great lookin game with a great story. No complaints here!

  • See, they were smart. If this was just another Gears, this would've been unacceptably boring. By chopping this up into super tight missions with inventive ways to up the difficulty, it was at least decent. Still kinda gross that this was ever 60 bucks though.

  • Odd that this game hit none of the same pleasure centers as the last one. Just wanted to be done with it. *shrug*

  • Didn't cry like some people apparently did. It was alright. Worth going through.

  • Keeps the formula fresh, it's enjoyable all around, and it's been numerous-gf-successful.

  • They did a really solid job of making me care about this franchise! Solid game, so pretty, and just enough incentive to make me wanna get absolutely everything (DAMN THOSE MINES!). I felt so bad when I killed Fee Fee the Crab and the achievement popped. It's like when you curse in Demolition Man.

  • Been pretty good about staying away from "bad games" for a while now, but I gave this one a shot for the humor's sake. It made me chuckle a couple of times, but that's really it. I wouldn't say it's worth much if any money though. Entirely middle of the road meh.

  • The first iPad game I beat! Not as difficult as I anticipated, but I did have to use a couple clues toward the end.

  • Great game. Knew I wanted to buy this as soon as I saw the quick look. Not sure how many of these game apps I'll wanna buy though. This one was "quick" enough to "beat", but most really are endless.

  • Great game AND story, and isn't overly long like most open world games. Nice, new flavor of story. I'd go so far as saying this felt like Assassin's Creed in terms of striking some storybeats that no one's done before successfully (Yes, I'm counting Stranglehold and Rise to Honor)

  • These silly browser games are getting more and more interesting. Candy box didn't keep me entertained, but this one I got through to the "end"

  • 80% Vanquish with a sword. Almost too thick with political commentary by the end. But a neat game with spine-busting fun.

  • Now here's a mobile game done right! Great look, feels fantastic, and just long enough with the right kinda upgrades! Love it.

  • My first PS3 game and 900th game beaten! Desert ico, sweet and short, did exactly what it needed to. Gotta love a good story with no words in it.

  • My first "real" PS3 game. Might as well start with one of the biggest! No real surprise with this one, almost a bit disappointing in how the same it was. That's okay though, I'll just wait a bit before Ascensiom.

  • I'm ashamed to say I could never get through Killzone 1, it was WAY too stiff and boring, especially going back to it years later. Well, this game isn't too far from all that. Had to raise the sensitivity a bunch (and I never mess with those options), and still it felt like a bulky PS2 shooter where we hadn't figured out what makes a FPS feel good.
