Every Video Game I've Ever Beaten.

Basically a list of all the games I have beaten in my life. I know it looks short, but that is due to the site not listing a few obscure games and because they don't register multiple versions of a game, instead preferring to umbrella them all into one page. In either case...I don't know what to do, honestly. Just trust me on the number, I have a much more complete list that solves all these problems.

Meanwhile, I beat Gradius today as part of the Gradius Deluxe Pack. It only took me forty minutes. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd have finished that part of the next next blog by now.

Hey, back from my weeklong trip. How has your brief lead been? I decided to jump back into Chrono Cross, so all other games are completely on hold until I grind through this. 10 hours in, and no end in sight.

I'm already writing my next blog, meaning I have five games left. Hell, I'd probably be starting the next game if I spent more of today typing the blog instead of doing nothing.

Eh, not really, especially when your "nothing" is spent listening to Kefka's theme while looking like Conker at the beginning of Bad Fur Day. Here's a bad example of that.

I don't remember, exactly, but I think it was "complete all the modes", which boiled down to "play until the difficulty just about plateaus." It's definitely gonna be a game I'll have to revisit in the future, given how little I remember about it.

question for Video Game King : may i ask what method you employ to calculate a rating like for example 6.3/10? or is it just a number that appears in your mind. I'm genuinenly interested in this.

I use the pre-.5 GameSpot system, which I figured out long ago. Once I have that score, I adjust as I see fit.

I honestly don't know beyond, "Make it something special." For example, game #1000 was a compilation of three games I had previously beaten, making that blog a retrospective among retrospectives.

I was actually thinking of finishing Majora's Mask for the first time, since that's the only main series Zelda game that I've never finished (discounting Spirit Tracks and Four Swords Adventures).

The Minish Cap was actually the first Zelda game I ever played to completion. Great game, too bad there hasn't been a fantastic top-down adventure in a while. I enjoyed Phantom Hourlgass, but not enough to pick up Spirit Tracks.

I'm just confused as to why they think trains are medieval. What other games think trains are medieval? NONE! Why does Spirit Tracks think they're from the 800s?

Overall, it's been an incredibly productive week for me. I've finished Final Fantasy, Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Summon Night: Swordcraft Story, Gradius Galaxies, and Battletoads on the NES. May as well give up now, King.

My god, something amazing is occurring in my game playing habits... I've gotten... bored. Bored of short games, easy, simplistic platformers and shooters. I've started delving more into RPGs, starting with the completion of Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior. It can only go downhill from here!

...or I'll get bored by Final Fantasy III and end up playing Cave shooters on MAME.

You never run out of games, you just choose to ignore the constant stream of fantastic suggestions that I give you (Shock Troopers, Policenauts, Ikari no Yousai 2, Fortified Zone, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, Summon Night: Swordcraft Story, Uninvited, Deja Vu, ZAS, ESP Ra.De, Guwange, Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara, and Beneath a Steel Sky, to name a few).

I have good reasons for all of those. In fact:

  • I don't think I remember you recommending it to me. I remember Cyber Lip, though, and I have that downloaded.
  • I've honestly tried that, but I can never get my emulator to run it.
  • I forget what that is. *looks it up* Eh, I probably should try that out.
  • Same as Ikari no Yousai 2, especially since it's Ikari no Yousai 1 :P.
  • I still need to get into RTSes in general. I'd go back to Starcraft, but that's REALLY long.
  • I still have a few other RPGs to finish.
  • Isn't that something luce bothers me about?
  • Or maybe it's this.
  • What the hell is ZAS? Is it this?
  • Again, I don't ever remember you saying anything about it.
  • This one's weird, because I feel like you actually may have said something about it before.
  • Is that the arcade one on the Saturn? Given that I've finally gotten it working, I could probably do this.
  • Although you haven't said a thing about it, I feel like I should try it out.
Also, I've a fuckload of blogs ready to write, and none of them involve these games.

I've totally said something about every single one of those games. If you can't get Policenauts working, try finding a pre-patched ISO. If you have a functional PlayStation emulator, it should run.

Arcade version of Shadow Over Mystara. The Saturn version includes Tower of Doom, which is also pretty good.

Uninvited and Deja Vu are two point-and-click games on the NES/DOS (personally, I've played the NES versions). Sort of like Shadowgate, which is the most famous of the three. If you haven't played Shadowgate, you should. (That reminds me, I need to play through Deja Vu 2)

Red Alert 2 is decent length, probably not as long as Starcraft, though. You can get the original Red Alert for free now, I believe.

Beneath a Steel Sky is free on GOG.com. So is Lure of the Temptress, but I haven't tried that yet.

Also, if you end up playing Shock Troopers, play Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad as well.

Summon Night: Swordcraft Story only took me like eight hours, so if you are looking for a shorter RPG, then it's for you. It's a little shallow, and the dialogue/story is miserable, but it's decent fun.

Yes, that would be ZAS. Probably one of my favorite vertical shmups on the Game Boy, uses parallax scrolling like a boss.

Guwange and ESP Ra.De are two obscure Cave shooters, ESP Ra.De being the better of the two. Guwange is freaking weird. You fight a giant spider-cat, a morphing baby, etc. Based on feudal Japan though, so it makes sense.

  • Even then, though, problems can arise. For example, Samurai Shodown III goes black on Rimururu's stage, so my only hopes are to play the Neo Geo version.
  • I'd say "shit", but I already know how I'm going to handle this.
  • Oh yea, Shadowgate....*goes off to play Shadowgate, maybe*
  • Still, that's pretty long. I still have to go through The Granstream Saga and Bahamut Lagoon.
  • Shit. I really should play Shock Troopers. Not now, though. You'll see why in my next blog.
  • So it's like the original Dragon Quest? Awesome.
  • I'd say my favorite is Solar Striker, but I've beaten so many games that it's one of those games that I can't remember if I've beaten it or not :P.
  • *looks up Guwange* Holy shit. The translation is terrible. I see your name on the page, so how could you not notice that?

  • Get a better emulator. Or a better computer.
  • Tower of Doom is also on the arcade, so you could always just play them on MAME.
  • Dialogue isn't as bad as Dragon Warrior. Dragon Warrior had mechanical and uninteresting dialogue, Summon Night just has uninteresting and childish dialogue.
  • Solar Striker is pretty good, but I prefer ZAS. Solar Striker was pretty standard for a vertical shmup, ZAS stuck out to me as being more unique.
  • I haven't done any editing on the Guwange page.

  • But I kinda have the best PS1 emulator out there. Besides, Policenauts is known to be finicky with emulators; slowbeef even had to post his own settings when he was doing the translation.
  • I'm aware, but I'll need to do a bit of transitioning, first. Maybe some shooters and that Simpsons beat-em-up.
  • What about the fact that I can complete Dragon Warrior in a few sittings? Is the same true of Summon Night?
  • I guess. It's hard to say, not having played ZAS.
  • I suggest that you do, since you're the only one here who has any experience with the game.

  • I never had any issues with it, and I am typically the unluckiest guy when it comes to emulation.
  • Yeah, it's pretty linear. There's no world map, there are only three towns, and it basically holds your hand throughout the whole game.
  • Meh... I guess I could...

  • I thought I was the unluckiest. After all, I've never beaten Landstalker because of an emulation glitch that makes it impossible to complete.
  • Given that somebody once told me that Parasite Eve is about the same length, I now have two RPGs I can blow through on a boring weekend.

Don't you hate it when you hit that one boss that you can't beat no matter how hard you try? Yeah. It's like that.

And the battle system/leveling system in Chrono Cross is designed so that there aren't "levels," per se, but you earn stars from bosses that up your level. So I can't grind. It's all strategy. Which I lack.

I'd advise against Final Fantasy Legend, since it's Romancing SaGa Lite.

Romancing SaGa is interesting, and 2 is probably the best that the series ever achieved. Then again, there is the rape at the end.

Well, Final Fantasy Legend is--I assume--short, looks easy, and since it's a Game Boy game, it doesn't wear down my Macbook's battery too much. Meaning I can play it in class. NES and Game Boy are easy to play in class without wasting away my battery in an hour.

King... today is the day. That I beat Garai, the boss holding me up in Chrono Cross. Yes! I am newly rejuvenated. It will happen. I can feel it.

Yea, it's kinda short and on the easy side, assuming that you grind like crazy. Of course, that's easy, too; I remember finding one place to grind, and I just held down the space button and hit the A button like crazy.

Shouldn't you be learning stuff in class? That's the point of class. Also, remembering your age, you're not in college; what the hell's a laptop doing in your classroom?

StarFoxA...tomorrow is the day. Tomorrow is the day that I finish my blog, the one that I've been working on for over a week. Yes! I am feeling exactly the same. It will happen. I can feel it.

I'd like to imagine it being a British/New England (they're the same, right?) boarding school, but given that you live in Florida, I don't think that's possible.

I can't exactly change crap like that. If I could, I would, since my fast forward buttons are all over the place (one of them requires me to hammer Scroll Lock).

I probably will, since I have a policy of finishing a blog segment in a day.

Nope, just small and private. The teachers there are fairly technically proficient, at least for teachers, utilizing Google Docs and such more than I've seen in the past.

Tab is ALWAYS the fast forward button. V is A, C is B, Enter is Start, Space is Select, and then everything else can be interchangeable.

Most of the emulators I use are based on the same framework, so I have customizable controls for every emulator. Command (Mac version of control) + F is always quick save, Command + D is always quick load. Except in my Genesis emulator.
