It's April and I'm a bit late. No excuses really, well... PlayStation dropping their weekly store update blog post has made keeping track of which games came out a bit more cumbersome, but I manage with the web store. Still, the list has been updated, so without further to do: My list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita. As usual it is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

While not quite as massive what's coming in May, April has a solid lineup. Most notable releases are Period Cube: Shackles of Amadeus a fantasy otome visual novel brought over by Aksys, and NIS' puzzle game A Rose in the Twilight. As usual there are also a few indies like Lichtspeer, RPG Fairune, platformer The Deer God, and rhythm game Deemo.

Moving onto new game announcements, NISA surprised everyone by grabbing Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana instead of XSEED. Bamco confirmed their bringing over their recently announced third Digimon Vita game Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker's Memory, as is Square Enix apparently doing with the Romancing SaGa 3 port (though we're still waiting for the second entry). Kemco has another budget retro RPG in the works with Revenant Saga, and indie dev Arcade Distillery is giving us roguelite Plague Road. There is also rumblings that Rising Star Games might be publishing Drive Girls, the number one anime girls turning into cars simulator on the platform.

Over in Japan, Bamco has a Virtual On x A Certain Magical Index mashup in the works, and Arc System Works made a sequel to top down mech game Damascus Gear. A port of shoot 'em up Gundemonium is also comming, and visual novels and more Touhou.

In some housekeeping AeternoBlade II has dropped Vita as a platform and thus removed. Rain World has also moved to vaporware, since while not officially canceled there has been no talk of the Vita version for quite a while.

And we're done. Come back next month for an RPG bonanza, including Operation Babel: New Tokyo Legacy, Utawarerumono: Mask Of Deception, Summon Night 6: Lost Borders, Ys Origin, and The Caligula Effect.

I'm both intrigued and disappointed by Period Cube... It feels right to support an otome game coming out in the West, and especially one made exclusively for the Vita. However, it seems like a very derivative game and the reviews have been poor. I also been generally disappointed by Aksys' translation efforts in the past. Of the three otome games that Aksys licensed, I think I'll wait for Collar × Malice, which reviewed much better than the others.

A Rose in the Twilight seems a legitimately interesting game, but I think I'll pick it up on Steam instead!

It's a bit of a shame that one out of the five download titles are all older releases. Lichtspeer came out a few months ago, so I'll give it a pass - but Fairune? I remember reading something about that game in 2013! It's slim pickings out there for the Vita.

But, eh, as long as there aren't any decent handheld options for Puyo Puyo Tetris, the Vita will still be my handheld of choice. The Switch version is tempting, but the battery life, size, and screen (in comparison to the Vita's OLED) all stack up against it.

    Thanks for the Vita updates!
