Every Game I've Beaten (That I Remember)

So somewhere in the darkness of the late 90s, I decided that the breadth of games that I had gone through merited a list. Perhaps for absurdity's sake, perhaps to try and convince myself to kick the "childish" habit; whatever the case, I now have proof positive that I've done some dumb things in my life, I'm a proud (and old) gamer, and I wish to share that very madness with the Giantbomb community.

List items

  • This is more Castlevania than Castlevania even! Solid though. Glad they gave the no-knockback option (didn't use it for the record). More love letters gotta be like this. I'd play not-NES games all day long then.

  • (NES) A game for babies is still a game :-P

  • Killin it!

  • Mindless territory-taking-over-er. Kinda fragile in dying, but still not too hard. A bit soulless, but definitely a few steps better than the first.

  • I can't believe this happened to me. I started this back when it came out and thought all the hype was overrated. Fast forward to 2018 and I got through it in a few days. Absolutely won me over. Such inventive mechanics, pretty good characters, and a truly endearing story that got to me despite being cliche. Glad I was able to do the true run-through the first time. I would've been upset to have played through it twice.

  • Didn't hook me as well as Transistor or even Bastion did, but I stuck with it until the end. Supergiant is both trying something different here as well as kind of showing their patterns a bit more than I'd like with this one.

  • Beat another decade-old game that's Vinny recommended. It was fine, way longer than it needed to be, but that's probably par for the course at the time. Glad I beat one of the very small games I still want to play from the Xbox original days.

  • A cute level-based pathfinder. Much quicker than I thought it'd be. Kept me interested long enough. Didn't feel the need to go back to former levels and collect it all. Seemed almost too easy?

  • This was a four stage game. Protip: you can only have two bad guys on screen, so just get them behind you and escort them to the end.

  • That monkey is savage.

  • Mario 3 UI with a cute, easy platformer. It wasn't that bad! For what it was anyways.

  • A no-ending game I'll consider complete cuz I did "very good"!

  • Another one of those games I looked at screenshots of and admired when I was a kid. Only took me some 30 years to get to it!

  • NES version. Did all the mazes so I'll count this as beaten. Now with 100% more bow

  • Always loved the look of this game plus the fact that you're fighting the solar system! Actually really cool, and beatable which is a great combo for this kinda game.

  • Dragon's Lair but in spaceeeeee!

  • Well that was a crazy bootleg but surprisingly decent game. Again, the Mario 3 UI clones continue to do well.

  • Looks great, but SO boring! Very much a who cares kinda story. I started missing Alan Wake!

  • More of the same. Every boss is the same.

  • You're already completed.

  • NES version. Man, screw those two final bosses. They just get harder and cheaper as you kill them!

  • NES version. This was a cute little proto Toe Jam and Earl? It's probably not randomized. Idea is good. I wonder how the modern make of this is...

  • Easy until those guys before the final boss. Jeez they sucked!

  • I sat on playing this game for SO long. It was exactly what I thought it was going to be, but instead of barreling through it, it took me something around six months to pick it up again and beat it. It was satisfactory, I guess.

  • Second game in a week I've beaten named Quantum. This was a surprisingly good NES game that I've never heard of! Hair whipping attacks. Some Ninja Gaiden platforming but it was pretty solid!

  • FINALLY beat this garbage. Starting you at the start of the level when you lose one turtle is garbage. The last two levels are brutal, and that's compared to the first few that everyone knows! At least Shredder stun locks.

  • I never played this Disney block game. It's short but sweet. That one boss with the vertical cannonball and shots moving back and forth was an ass, everything else was just fine.

  • Cute little Zelda-esque game. I enjoyed it except for the couple of times it left me in the dark either halfway or completely. It was good for what it was.

  • A cute little NES game! It's sort of a mini-game collection with some rad music. Quick enough, kinda neat to see some new (to me) edutainment.

  • NES version. Submarines are evil inclusions to this game, but at least the special shots made it palatable.

  • Why was this such an enjoyable little game? A few stages, and kind of brutal when you die to just throw you back to the title screen, but I got that old man, a cloud, and a lady.

  • NES version. WAY harder than the SNES cake walk. If you don't get down to 2-4 squares in your first volley, you're done!

  • Almost an intuitive game. Figured out the upgrade stuff easily enough. That last boss/run thing was way too difficult and obscure to pull off though. And then it's just unceremoniously over.

  • This was a really good, intuitive puzzle game! Short levels, only the last stage roughed me up. Really solid.

  • Not too different from the other ones, but yes, still a good one of these. The hook thing made tall buildings a welcome trifle. Story was so much the same that I felt like I had already beaten this final boss when I played Unity.

  • Now that was a long ass story mode. Excessive dialogue and number of stages to be sure, and they could have at least tried to put a few more characters in there. The third arc you're basically playing as two characters the whole time! Anyways, still a great game.

  • This game REALLY railroaded even what 3 was, much less what 1 and 2 were. Like what Brad said about the game, it's like they took all the non-Dead Rising parts of 3 and expanded on that rather than a spiritual successor. Still okay, but definitely not as exciting.

  • That was a cute little game. But also too easy like everyone says.

  • Another one of those, still good! I always appreciate games that very overtly pin everything you see on the map.

  • I've had this thing for eight years and got too frustrated to get past the first level. It's only three levels?! It was actually the right amount of difficult, kinda alright. Any more and it would've gotten boring.

  • I beat it! Seeing Dan and Vinny do this gave me the courage to try again. Here?

  • That was a really good storytelling. Cute level designs, didn't overstay its welcome. They got me a bit more than I thought they would.

  • I was really bad at this until I tried one day, then I zoomed through it...well, with some treasure map help. Still good mechanics though!

  • A cute little platformer. Quick, does what it needed to and got out.

  • Cute RPG mix with Final Fight. Once I realized how to throw a fireball, it got a LOT easier.

  • Wow, this was a really great game! Legend of Zelda-esque in so many ways, but still, wow. Creative bosses, varied levels. One of my favorite NES games! Hope 2 is as enjoyable.

  • Great game! Decisions definitely felt weighted (even if they might not have been). Those don't move sections were incredibly tense and maybe too unforgiving. Great great iteration of this type of game.

  • Wow, this game came out of nowhere and was right up my alley! The girlie and I smoked through this in two sittings. Piecing together the murders and intrigue here is SO good. You could do so many games like this, but Lucas Pope probably won't give us a sequel. Hopefully someone pays attention to this one!

  • Got through the story here. Lost interest pretty quick. It's not bad at all! Just more of the same. A few years past makes it refreshing at least.

  • Cool, cute mini-sequel to Undertale. Different enough, not too long. I wonder if it'll just be more of this or what. Very weird/neat way to put a game out though.

  • A good one of these! The right length, hidden stuff is easy enough to find. Story is a bit too serious for its own good but still solid. Liked it a lot!

  • My first Switch game! Well it was a nice try Nintendo. Just doesn't feel good enough.

  • Open world game that was better than it had the right to be. It's not like it was amazing, but I kept playing it and kept doing every little collectible I could until that map was clear. Cute little addition to the Mad Maxiverse.

  • Solid game, not too hard. Lets you get comfortable with the maps before being let loose. Also, some of those hints kind of sucked. Still real good small game!

  • Cute game for a few minutes. Worth a silly night.

  • Good game, but for whatever reason, these levels killed me so much more than ever before. Usually I coast through the levels and have trouble with the bosses. This time it was the opposite. Glad to have a new one, kinda wish Wily was a little more inspired, but man does this franchise bring out the curses in me.

  • Good Uncharted! Not as different as people made it out to be, but I enjoy this series. One of these days I'll finally get back to the Last of Us...

  • It's great, not Matt-Rorie great, but pretty good and quick. A fresh Hotline Miami take.

  • Cute, short Kirby game. It's been a while so felt good to beat one.

  • What a pretty remake of a pretty great game! Never really played this franchise. You can see a lot of the smart mechanics and design put into the original. Glad they shaved off some of the antiquated parts to make this really fun to play!

  • Cute little puzzle game. Not my usual cup of tea, but the missus and I love doing these together.

  • Quick game. Gorgeous looking, neat style, amazing music!

  • Great game, held up to all the hype. I didn't do everything, but I did as much as I could! Great story, and great little tiny twist even. Definitely a 2018 best.

  • The story was a bit aimless, but I'd go as far as saying this was one of the best David Cage games! Doesn't help that Heavy Rain had that crippling bug for me.

  • I'm counting PT as a game! Got through everything but the ten paces garbage without assistance! I'll take it!

  • Mobile version. Really glad I finally played this classic. This version wasn't too grind-y, and it holds up my theory that old RPGs like this are perfect for phone games! Onto 2?!

  • Most current remake. I can't even imagine doing this with Chris and six inventory slots. Very glad I finally went back and played this classic. Would not have had the patience for this before. Excited to try the remake of 2.

  • iPhone version. I'm finding that playing these grindy RPGs as apps are the perfect way to digest them! It of course helps that these updated versions fix too much of the grinding... Now if only they could throw some more ps2 rpgs on the apple store!

  • A good looking remake of the original. Can never say no to one of these!

  • Cool, industrial sorta crazy for a rhythm game. Frustrating sometimes when you can't see and/or hear what's coming up. But I enjoyed it quite a bit.

  • Great great great game! So well made, fantastic way to play this classic I never did with the original! Can't wait for 3

  • Base Destiny beaten (thus far). Great game. kinda regret not having played it sooner. Story's easy to forget, but the mythos is great. Can't wait to dig into the expansions and 2.

  • This WAS a really great Spider-Man game! Frankly, even the bad ones are at least something. There was a lot of busy work in this one, but damned if I didn't devour every part of this game. Controls took me a second to get used to, but yeah, cannot wait for the sequel on this!

  • Figured I'd whiz through this one real quick. Comfy game to get through, still the same charm as these games always have. Love that there's a combat racing trophy in here; should've made Drake Racing!

  • Solidly built game, Camelot still good at making an infuriating difficulty level on these sports games! I feel like the clean aesthetic that Nintendo has on all its Switch games is what's going to make this console timeless in a way.

  • A quick, terribly made Power Rangers NES game! Would've secretly liked this as a kid.

  • Another one done. Super didn't like this when I tried it a couple years ago. Picked it up again and got through it. It was easy except when I got to the final bosses, then I had to grind! Shouldn't have needed to then!! At least now I can play 3?

  • Played Red/Blue when it came out, never actually beat the Elite Four. Glad to say I got my crew together and did it this time! Really great update of these games; I mean, they got me to play one of these again!

  • Cute, simple-looking puzzle game! Stuck a few times, but got through it which is always a testament to a well made game.

  • Definitely a good one of those. Maybe it makes a better impact in VR, but it just seem pretty good is all. Maybe if I was more into the other modes more?

  • Kind of a walk through the story the first two set up, which made it less amazing inherently. Bad guys looked very new and different, but too aggro for what I want from this game. At least they didn't do the "best hits" like the later games did.

  • Capcom really turned it around here! Played REmake 2 before this, but it had the same great pace, scares, and all in first person. All I could think was how terrifying it'd be in VR.

  • More of the same. Story mode felt too easy. I mean this series know what it is and what it's doing.

  • FINALLY finished this up. Played a couple hours of this years ago, and just never was in the mood for it. Kept trying to play it like a straight stealth game and that was intensely frustrating. Once I just snuck in then action'ed my way out, this was just fine. Very dark story, I can see why so many people liked it. Didn't swoon for it quite the same way, though.

  • The games actually feel a bit smarter than previous iterations. Same ol game though!

  • Jackpot! Story/ideas feel a bit bland, but still mindlessly enjoyable. Maybe too good at these types of games now? Most every boss I beat on my first try.

  • Tried this, thought it was whatever, then was listening to the GOTY bombcasts again and it made me want to play through it. Better than I thought at first blush. Not as hard as I assumed it was going to get either.

  • Quick one, but does it have styyyyyle!

  • Wow this game is good! XCom but not as punishing. The extra health option at the beginning of each level with no punishment is exactly what this genre needs to get me invested. The skill tree, the variety of strategy needed, really really stellar!

  • What a terrible name for a game! Generic puzzle fighter game, weird line-up and Peter Cullen is what even got me interested. Otherwise ho-hum.

  • Good albeit frustrating puzzles. Careful playing with loved ones! Great game though.

  • Thanks to the PC GamePass, I'm finally getting to some of these Xbox exclusives! This game was more of a just-another-one-of-those than I thought it'd be, but it's been a long time so I'll take it!

  • I'm only here for the single player, folks. I thought a bit too much stealth with the first two scenarios, but the last ones evened that out for me. I kind of like this vignette approach the more I encounter it. You don't get that plodding second act.

  • Chipped away at this one over some months, but just as good as the original albeit more of the same. These games would've rocked my mind as a kid!!

  • I've been dying to play this game since I heard how good it was. Better than X, didn't enrapture me the way 9 did though. Still, good return to form. And like everyone says, they totally ruined the Krypt.

  • As mediocre and bland as it looks. Still just good enough to keep me going. Probably very glad I did the definitive edition because I otherwise would've tired myself of collecting cores.

  • It's kind of like a B tier Last of Us, but it's still a solid game! Unforgiving stealth, but I rarely lost. The story did the right things to keep you invested. I love an almost-real story that by the end goes so off the rails video game style too.

  • I actually enjoyed this a good bit more than the other David Cage games. Yes, it was ham-fisted like all of these are, but it still gave you something to cheer for. And it was comprehensible, which cannot be said for his other properties.

  • Alright, they made a single player mode! That was cute, let me play through a few Mario levels. Thinking about replaying World just because now.

  • Finally got around to this. The first two always felt sort of loose; this one felt much better. Nothing spectacular, but you know how I love a good clear-the-map game!
