1000 Achievement Points is a hard limit for all retail products.
250 Achievements Points is a hard limit for DLC products.
They can however introduce 1000/250 Achievement Titles, consisting of 1 point each, for example; though no developer would do that due to time contraints and pure gameplay-achievement elements in any individual game.

I think they can only do that with new maps. Halo 3's extra points are because of it's new maps.
I guess that they COULD add new points if they wanted to, but I'd assume they'd only do it with a new map pack.

The idea has come up a few time in the irc to great enthusiasm.

As much as i prefer Gears of War 2, Halo 3 wins due to the fact i can get into a multiplayer game in less than 20 mins.

After killing approximately twenty mercs and killing what I assume must have been their leader I started wondering what this whole Fort Bannister was supposed to be there for.
