September Vita lineup and upcoming titles

It's September, a big month for games for the Vita, which is great because I'm here yet again with my monthly list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita. As usual it is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

After a relatively quiet August (surprise releases of Undertale and The Bard's Tale notwithstanding), it's great to have a packed month like this again. There's acclaimed action RPG Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, SRPG Utawarerumono: Mask Of Truth, dungeon RPG Mary Skelter: Nightmares, and a new start for one of the platform's most notable franchises Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. There's also the sequel to Image & Form's indie hit SteamWorld Dig 2, another retro RPG from Kemco Antiquia Lost, and car themed musou clone Drive Girls. (Additionally, it seems Summon Night 6: Lost Borders might actually make it out at the end of the month, but I remain skeptical.)

Moving over to new game announcements, Square Enix probably stole the show with the reveal of a remake of beloved SNES action RPG Secret of Mana. However NISA also let slip they're bringing Kadokawa's dungeon crawler The Lost Child to the west, and the devs for indies Valfaris, Ghost 1.0, and One More Dungeon indicated Vita ports are coming.

Over in Japan Gust is at work on another Atlier game Atelier Lydie & Soeur, and 5pb. is doing an expanded and enhanced version of Steins;Gate. Bamco is doing a dungeon crawler based on the "Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?" franchise. And D3 Publisher gives their cute girls with guns third person shooter franchise a fantasy makeover with Bullet Girls Phantasia. Beyond that there were a bunch of visual novels, including a lot of otome. See the list for full details.

Finally, another casualty, as Witch Beam have announced they've given up on porting Assault Android Cactus to the Vita due to performance issues. As such it has been removed from the list.

And I'm done! See you again in October when a new Science Adventure visual novel makes it's appearance with Chaos;Child.

August Vita lineup and upcoming titles

It's August, and I'm a bit late... again. But still here it is, my monthly list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita. As usual it is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

Looking at this months releases, it's pretty slim pickings. To paraphrase Army of Darkness, you ain't got nothin' but Summon Night 6 and Windjammers, and Summon Night left town. Or at least got delayed again, this time to September. As usual smaller indie games will usually pop up out of nowhere on PSN, and September is pretty packed so the only reason to despair is if you're pre-ordering Danganronpa V3!

Not a lot of new game announcements last month either, mainly another classic SNK fighting game Samurai Shodown V Special, and another Kemco retro RPG Antiquia Lost. Well, Funbox Media is cooking up some real bangers for the Nintendo Switch, and Vita owners are lucky enough to get in on the action. Look forward to a "Fun and Quirky shoot-em-up game" with Chicken Range, and nonstop action casino minigames with Vegas Party.

Over in Japan it was more lively, as Atlus in their usual timely fashion has decided to cash in on the success of Persona 4 Golden with Persona 3: Dancing Moon Night and Persona 5: Dancing Star Night rhythm games. Also comedy action anime franchise Gintama is getting Gintama: Project Last Game, speculated to be based on the mechanics of One Piece: Burning Blood. And in a somewhat oddball announcement, it looks like the free to play MMO Onigiri is getting a Vita version as well.

And we're done. Come back next month for more Ys, more Utawarerumono, more Danganronpa. Heck, who knows, maybe Summon Night 6 won't suffer yet another delay.

July Vita lineup and upcoming titles

It's July, and I'm a bit tired. But still, even if I'm a bit late it won't stop me from posting my monthly list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita. As usual it is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

Looking at this months releases, the obvious stand out is Accel World VS Sword Art Online, another RPG from Bandai Namco which, as the title suggests, combines Sword Art Online with Accel World series. We also have indie action RPG Fallen Legion, mystery/crime themed otome game Collar X Malice, action puzzle game Ninja Usagimaru: Two Tails of Adventure from FK Digital, and indie puzzle game Energy Cycle.

Moving on to new game announcements, my lateness means that after a fairly quite June giving us little beyond a port of Undertale, Anime Expo happened. And such we got a bunch of new game localizations - like dungeon RPG Demon Gaze II and retro action RPG Penny-Punching Princess from NIS America. Aksys was there too, going otome crazy with Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly, Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk and 7'scarlet, but also announcing fighting game Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st], and hack 'n slash meets racing game Drive Girls.

Over in Japan, Compile Heart revealed they're working on another dungeon RPG named Tokyo Clanpool. Also there were a bunch of visual novels, and the mystery adventure Mystereet F, which was curiously originally announced as an Xbox One exclusive back in 2014 before disappearing for several years.

Else, it's a bit late now as Glixel has already shut down, but I wanted to plug this story they did about indie developers who are still finding the Vita a worthwhile platform to support.

And I'm done! Come back next month for Mary Skelter: Nightmares. And who knows, maybe Summon Night 6: Lost Borders won't suffer yet another delay!

June Vita lineup and upcoming titles

We've entered June! And while Vinny and Alex may not know what games are coming out for the Vita this month, you sure will when you read my monthly list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita. As usual it is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

It's a apparently doubles month this time, as we've got two SRPGs with God Wars: Future Past and the hopefully not further delayed Summon Night 6: Lost Borders. Also two action RPGs, the retro styled Cladun Returns and then Falcom's Tokyo Xanadu (which is technically in the same franchise as NES classic Faxanadu, though really resembles a real time Persona more than anything.) Finally there's the self-explanatory Farming Simulator 18, indie rougelite Plague Road, and Valkyria Revolution a more action oriented prequel to the Valkyria Chronicles series. As always expect more downloadable games to be announced as the month progresses.

As for May's new game announcements, a bit of a quiet month this time. The main attraction was pQube finally confirming they bringing over Science Adventure visual novel Chaos;Child, but we also learnt that indie puzzler Factotum 90 is being ported.

Over in Japan there was a bit more activity, as Kadokawa and the director of El Shaddai announced DRPG The Lost Child, while Bujingai creators RED Entertainment revealed visual novel Our World is Ended. The previously announced Occultic;Nine was confirmed for the Vita by 5pb., and they're making a shoot 'em up based on the KonoSuba franchise as well. Unfortunately it seems Project City Shrouded in Shadow is PS4 only now, so that has been removed from the list.

And with that, it seems we're done. Come back next month for side scrolling RPG Fallen Legion, and scifi mystery otome Collar X Malice.

May Vita lineup and upcoming titles

It's May, and I'm back (on track) with my monthly list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita. As usual it is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

We've got a big month ahead of us with plenty of releases, starting of with FurYu's stab at the Persona audience with modern day JRPG The Caligula Effect courtesy of Atlus, and later Falcom's action RGP Ys Origin. Those are download only, but not so for Spike Chunsoft's Akihabara action-adventure Akiba’s Beat, Idea Factory's otome Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds, or fantasy SRPGs Summon Night 6: Lost Borders and Utawarerumono: Mask Of Deception, not to mention DRPG Operation Babel: New Tokyo Legacy.

Moving on to April's new game annoucements, I'm left with a somewhat truncated list as a good chunk of them were included in last months regrettably late post. Still, Nippoin Ichi did reveal their little horror game Yomawari is getting a sequel, which is already slated for localization as Yomawari: Midnight Shadows. Last months rumor about action game Drive Girls coming over has partially panned out, as it's currently scheduled for release in Europe this month, but I would be very surprised if it doesn't make its way to the states as well. Finally, two more visual novels are coming - Nurse Love Addiction a lesbian romance themed one from Degica, and Akash: Path of the Five a otome style western indie game.

Shifting to Japan, Spike Chunsoft announced a survival action RPG Zanki Zero, about 8 people trying to get by on a post apocalyptic Earth. Meanwhile, Arc System Works are porting Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st], an expanded version of the anime style fighting game previously released on the PS3. And Silver Circle is bringing over a collection of their mobile/handheld puzzle platformers with Rabi X Laby: Puzzle Out Stories.

And I'm done. Come back next month for a new action RPG from Falcom - Tokyo Xanadu:

April Vita lineup and upcoming titles

It's April and I'm a bit late. No excuses really, well... PlayStation dropping their weekly store update blog post has made keeping track of which games came out a bit more cumbersome, but I manage with the web store. Still, the list has been updated, so without further to do: My list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita. As usual it is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

While not quite as massive what's coming in May, April has a solid lineup. Most notable releases are Period Cube: Shackles of Amadeus a fantasy otome visual novel brought over by Aksys, and NIS' puzzle game A Rose in the Twilight. As usual there are also a few indies like Lichtspeer, RPG Fairune, platformer The Deer God, and rhythm game Deemo.

Moving onto new game announcements, NISA surprised everyone by grabbing Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana instead of XSEED. Bamco confirmed their bringing over their recently announced third Digimon Vita game Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker's Memory, as is Square Enix apparently doing with the Romancing SaGa 3 port (though we're still waiting for the second entry). Kemco has another budget retro RPG in the works with Revenant Saga, and indie dev Arcade Distillery is giving us roguelite Plague Road. There is also rumblings that Rising Star Games might be publishing Drive Girls, the number one anime girls turning into cars simulator on the platform.

Over in Japan, Bamco has a Virtual On x A Certain Magical Index mashup in the works, and Arc System Works made a sequel to top down mech game Damascus Gear. A port of shoot 'em up Gundemonium is also comming, and visual novels and more Touhou.

In some housekeeping AeternoBlade II has dropped Vita as a platform and thus removed. Rain World has also moved to vaporware, since while not officially canceled there has been no talk of the Vita version for quite a while.

And we're done. Come back next month for an RPG bonanza, including Operation Babel: New Tokyo Legacy, Utawarerumono: Mask Of Deception, Summon Night 6: Lost Borders, Ys Origin, and The Caligula Effect.

March Vita lineup and upcoming titles

March is here, and after a few snags with the site I'm back once again with my list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita is still monthly. As usual this list is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

For new releases, March is looking pretty good so far. First is yet another Atlier game from Gust, this time Firis who's apparently going on a Mysterious Journey. Also coming Tuesday is old school, top-down soccer in Dino Dini’s Kick Off Revival, the somewhat Breakout-ish Gem Smashers where you control the ball for once, and and adaptation of the Talisman board game. Later in the month you can pick up some retail releases if you want - a more open world take on monster hunting with Toukiden 2, the SRPG God Wars: Future Past, and Zero Escape: The Nonary Games, which combines the previously released Virtue's Last Reward with an enhanced port of 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors that adds higher resolution graphics and voice acting. (Also a shout-out to DRPG Stranger of Sword City Revisited which snuck out just at the end of February.)

Onto new games, February was a bit of a light month. Mainly NISA revealed that they're bringing Touhou Koubuto V over, which seems to be a Touhou derived Virtua On clone, also we're also getting a localized release of rhythm game Deemo. Else the previously annouced Tattoo Nation has become Tokyo Tattoo Girls, and I put Gust's RPG Blue Relection in unconfirmed as there have been English trophies spotted for it. In less plesant news, Chroma Squad and Forgotten Memories have been cancelled. Also XSEED confirmed they've passed on Net High, as it was deemed too challenging to localize.

Over in Japan, D3 announced Omega Labyrinth Z, either a sequel or an expanded rerelease of the Omega Labyrinth dungeon crawler.

And I think we're done. Come back next month for A Rose in the Twilight.

February Vita lineup and upcoming titles

So we're on to February, a bit late as I tried to do a bit of clean-up and move some a few older titles that look abandoned into the Vaporware category. But still, here is my list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita is still monthly. As usual this list is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

Looking at this months releases, it's download only, but Berserk and the Band of the Hawk is still a full retail sized game from Warriors developer Omega Force. Beyond that, we have a port of the 2006 PC action RPG Ys Origin, futuristic metroidvania Forma.8, and indie horror game Uncanny Valley. As always there are bound to be more game releases revealed as the month goes on.

On to new game announcements, Bandai has been doing well with the SAO anime games, so it's no surprise they're brining over the most recent one that crosses over with another franchise Accel World VS Sword Art Online. Atlus USA revealed a one-two punch by localizing story heavy SRPG Utawarerumono: Mask Of Deception and its sequel Utawarerumono: Mask Of Truth. NISA confirmed the very much expected Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, which is a bit of a reboot for the franchise. And DRPG developer Experience announced they're releasing Stranger of Sword City Revisited, and expanded version of the game NISA brought over last year. Additionally visual novel Dies Irae meat its Kickstarter goal for a Vita version, a port of the digital version of the classic board game Talisman is on the way, another exciting agricultural update with Farming Simulator 18, as well as a bunch of indies as usual.

Over in Japan, Experience decided to move a bit outside of the comfort zone with horror adventure Death Mark. And Nippon Ichi looks like they're taking a stab at that Danganronpa money with "death game adventure" Exile Election (lets hope it does better than Idol Death Game TV.)

And we're done! Next month is Toukiden 2 time. (Though apparently the Vita version has some performance problems so I'll post an anime overload trailer for Akiba’s Beat as well.)

January Vita lineup and upcoming titles

Hi! It's January! A new year! And even though there hasn't happened much since the very, very late December post, best to get back on track now when I can. So here it is - my list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita is still monthly. As usual this list is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

For January releases we don't have a lot announced at the moment. Mainly there's Fate/Extella, a hack 'n slash Warriors style game based on the Fate/stay night universe, a port of Gust's PS3 RPG Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea, and Dynasty Warriors: Godseekers - a strategy RPG spin-off from the Warriors series.

Moving on to new games, visual novel Sharin no Kuni just made its Vita stretch goal on Kickstarter. Also coming is comedy adventure game Warped Metaverse about Jay who gets sucked into a TV. And we have a sighting of Vita trophies for Kero Blaster (by Pixel of Cave Story fame). Over in Japan the main point of interest was the teaser page for the Vita game "Shiin", which we know nothing about other than it seemingly being owned by someone from Demon Gaze developer Experience.

And that was that. Come back next month for Ys Origin and Berserk and the Band of the Hawk.

December Vita lineup and upcoming titles

So, uh, hi.... again. Not the greatest month this either, in particularly it was a real momentum-killer when I lost the first draft of this blog due to needing to reboot the computer. But anyway, it is still December, and so technically this list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita is still monthly. As usual this list is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

On to what I suppose is now a recap of this months releases, starting off with tower defense The Keeper of 4 Elements and mobile shoot 'em up Battalion Commander. Then came the PSX surprise launch of puzzle game Lara Croft Go and classic fighting game Garou: Mark of the Wolves. No retail releases this month, but in spite of being download only Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization is a retail sized RPG. Alongside it came top down action title Space Overlords, adventure game Demetrios: The Big Cynical Adventure, and top down shooter #killallzombies. Rounding off the year was Wayforward's colorful platformer Shantae: 1/2 Genie Hero, cyberpunk stealth action Dex, and futuristic racing game Air Race Speed.

On to new game announcements, we have ever reliable Tecmo Koei bringing over Toukiden 2, while SEGA is localizing the more action focused Valkyria Chronicles spin-off Valkyria Revolution. Gio Corsi got on stage at PSX and annouced ports of action RPG Ys Origin, as well as a sick burn to Dave Lang in the form of Windjammers. Indie dev YummyYummyTummy is trying their hand at a Vanillaware-looking RPG with Fallen Legion. Aksys is giving us more otome with Period Cube: Shackles of Amadeus. And serveral other Asian indie games are coming, like Fairune, Koi, Polara, Mr. Pumpkin Adventure, and Tattoo Nation.

Over in Japan, a new Legend of Heroes game was annouced. Sadly it was not Trails of Cold Steel 3, which will be PS4 exclusive, but rather a port of Akatsuki no Kiseki - a free to play browser game. Also of tremendous interest to everyone, I'm sure, Tecmo Koei continues their annual horse racing series with Winning Post 8 2017.

And I'm done... Finally! Well, I really should just move straight on to the January post so I can get it out in a reasonable time frame. In the mean time, here's a trailer for next month's release of Fate/Extella:
