Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight! As we watch another week pass it is time to recognize the Birthdays of a few Giant Bomb notables. Jeff turned 36 this week and Ryan's brother also celebrated his birthday but the Community blessed him with a photoshop thread. A new month means there's a new Wiki Task Initiative, and the theme for this month is Ninjas! Finally Giant Bomb and to certain extent Whiskey media has been hit with Mustache madness! Not only that but Giant bomb has been hit with yet another cheap knockoff clone site! As you are likely up in arms with this news how about I calm you all down with the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Starlet!

Community Starlet: Claude

When thinking of the beginning of time two things come to mind: the Big Bang and Claude. Since man has existed Claude has been there to offer his sagely advice to all that need it and defend the Wii against all that oppose it. Even against our very own Jeff. For that reason he is this weeks Community Starlet.

Recently Claude has hit the milestone of surpassing 10,000 forum posts, a feat which only a handful of members have achieved. He even wrote a blog about this momentous occasion which manages to incorporate his sweet, sweet beard. If you've ever run across Claude in the forums you'll know that, for better or for worse, he will always speak what's on his mind and will tell it like it is. Going through his older blogs is like reading the diary of a madman, an entertaining madman though.

Apart from his antics on the boards, Claude also has quite a few lists that are worth viewing. Some of the more notable ones are The Real Citizen Kane's of Gaming, The Top 9 Claudes and the fittingly bizarre EGM #112 November 1998 N64 Reviews because, you know, Claude. On the wiki side of things the old man hasn't made too many edits but he has spent some time on the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 page back when Tiger was allowed to be on the cover on his own.

Once again lets congratulate Claude and his beard on being this weeks Starlet and remember to give your recommendations for the future Starlets.

This Starlet was brought to you by mracoon.

Can a Swedish User Explain This US "Swedish Diet" Commercial?

Or anyone of Scandinavian descent I'll take any help I can get for this. So watching basic cable television is already a sketchy proposition but something almost never disappoints in the United States are the commercials for gadgets, get rich quick schemes, or herbal medicine. Chalk this commercial up for herbal medicine I guess. Now before you watch this video I want to remind anyone who is Swedish that this is not fake. This is in fact the exact commercial I saw on television, and even I'm still not sure what in the world I saw. So here it is:

Now unfortunately the fine folks of the Swedish diet have disabled comments for any of their videos. But what you can do is go to their YouTube page which is already filled with angry comments from Swedish people who say they find the commercials "offensive." Me? I...jeez...ummm...it has electrolytes.

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight. With Bastion finally out remember to check out the wonderfully produced video content that Giant Bomb has created to give you the behind the scenes information about the game you can't get anywhere else. Also it seems that our very own Brad has used his behind the scenes knowledge to dominate the Bastion Leaderboards across the globe. However dominating the world isn't the only gift that Brad has to tote this week as he received a very awesome StarCraft theme cake to celebrate his birthday. Yet Brad doesn't have a monopolistic grasp over celebrating birthdays this week as Giant Bomb, the site we know and love, is celebrating its founding. If you forgot a present see if you can run over to the gas station or the pharmacy to get something to give as a gift. Giant Bomb's wiki grows stronger as our first Task Initiative has been launched, the interns talked about comics, and finally because talking about it isn't as successful as just posting it here's the latest edition of the Best of GiantBomb Quicklooks by TurboMan:

Notable Upcoming Events

  • Giant Bomb Community Bastion Friendly Leaderboard - See if you can Dethrone Brad from his #1 Spot by Joining HERE!

The Community Spotlight - 07/14/2011

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight! Due to personal commitments I'm keeping it brief and punctual with this edition of the Spotlight. Now as for the news of the site and housekeeping there are a few things to go over. Firstly wish Whiskey Media Community Podcast extraordinaire SparklyKiss a belated Happy 21st Birthday! What in the world is "Anami Vice" presented by "Whiskaye Films?" The Giant Bomb community is investigating! EpicSteve wrote a farewell blog about his internship a Whiskey Media as he leaves for Afghanistan. Sean Coonce would have you know that they are working to reduce the number of 500 errors you encounter while surfing Giant Bomb. With that aside I have plenty of podcasts, wikis, and forum topics for you to peruse for your own personal enjoyment.

Community Starlet: JJWeatherman

Howdy folks and welcome to another Community Starlet. This week the award goes to 38 Studios' own Rich Gallup, known on the forums by his alias of JJWeatherman. He claims that he's just a 'fan' but the evidence is clear, concise and irrefutable.

While not hard at work producing games that don't seem to exist, JJ is busy contributing to the site in any way he can. A constant presence on the forums with an enormous 12,500 posts, he's always got something to say about the what's going on in the community. If you want to know more about his thoughts on games and what he's been up to then his blog is a great place to start. One thing you should definitely check out is his (irregular) series 'Cloudy With a Chance of Gaming' and hopefully we'll get another entry soon. JJ is also the caretaker of Giant Bomb Twitter thread so if you want to see what other Bombers are tweeting or want some more exposure yourself then post your name there.

Highlights of some of JJ's other work on the site include great lists like games which would be better with Dave as the protagnoist, games that make him question society and the quintessential pile of shame. From a wiki perspective some of his top contributions are to the pages of the Apple II, the original Yars Revenge, the Rock Band 2 Wireless Drum Set and the classic Origin Systems RPG Knights of Legend. Finally, I have to mention his involvement in Pass the Whiskey, the Whiskey Media community podcast alongside fellow users Sparklykiss and slowbird. The latest episode can be heard here and it's highly recommended.

Once again join me in congratulating Rich/JJ for all he's done on the site and also continuing to berate him until he finally releases a game.

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight! The Community Spotlight 06/30/2011 (Starlet Included!)

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Community Spotlight! The updates continue at a steady pace just look at the new News Page. That's not the only good news as the second Big Live Live Show is all set for September 9th.  The interns have been belting out the enjoyable video content with a new Kessler Kam and an anime edition of Dog Deep by Lemon. Sadly but true interns aren't to last forever. So with that please check out Intern Undeadpool's send off as his internship has ended. With all of that in mind please check out the latest edition of the Community Spotlight as presented by mracoon:

Community Starlet- Featuring Mento!

When bringing back the Community Starlet one of the things I wanted to do was highlight not just users who are well known for their community content but those that might fall under the radar. That's why this week's ComStar is awarded to Mento.

Those searching for insightful, humorous and atrociously-named discussion about videogames would be wise going through Mento's blogs. He covers a plethora of topics from a comparative look at Baldur's Gate II vs. Dragon Age II to what makes a good achievement and even a hideously-named retrospective on From Software. People ask where all the thoughtful and well written content is and it's right here.

Mento also has a thing for lists as he's created 19 of them. Some select choices are 'Fun With Anagrams', 'List of Wizards & The Things They Find F'd Up', 'Character's Better Suited for Tycho's Chair in "Poker Night at the Inventory"' and 'Acrostatic' reviews.

I haven't even got to the best part yet, wiki subs! Yes, Mento has earned over 6500 wiki points and they were mostly gained from two pages: War Wind and Birthright: The Gorgon's Alliance. Never heard of them? Me either but thanks to Mento we have more information that we'll ever need about these two classic PC titles. One other page to look out for is the, for once, brilliantly-named Jelly Boy whose titular character, from reading the page, doesn't sound like he's actually made out of jelly.

The Community Spotlight - 06/23/2011 (Featuring a New Starlet)

Special Thanks to User FoxxFireArt for the Banner!
Special Thanks to User FoxxFireArt for the Banner!

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight! As we get nearer and nearer to the Summer Game Drought you can rest asssured that the Giant Bomb Community will keep each of you entertained! Check out intern Babylonian's blog about the start of his internship in the headquarters of Whiskey Media. The other interns talk about...comics whatever those are. There's a new Trenched based Community Quest Set with a limited number of slots for bonus points. Giant Bomb got obsessed with photo editing Robin William's beard on things. Something that I purposefully ignored until it was on the front page....Finally are there any Giant Bomb photo edits you think would look good as posters? Post you would be photobombs or faux movie posters here! With this all in mind let's check out this edition of the Community Starlet brought to you by mracoon:

Community Starlet: Video_Game_King

Welcome back to the Community Spotlight where we highlight the best and brightest of the Giant Bomb community. This week, by royal decree, the title is bestowed on our very own wannabe monarch Video_Game_King. If you've ever taken a gander at the forums then you'll have undoubtedly noitced VGK and one of his over 13,000 posts. While there's no way to verify his claims that he's the King of the Moon or over 300 years old, there's no denying that the dude likes to blog. And write reviews. And make lists. And edit the wiki. It's hard to find another all-round contributor on his level.

That's a lot of content so let's start with his blogs. Again, you've probably seen his 'Renegade Ego' blogs on the forums as, unlike me, he's able to stick to a weekly schedule. Asking him for his personal favourites he pointed to some... well, I'll let the titles speak for themselves: 'A very special diabetes edition of Renegade Ego', 'Possibly the darkest and most hate-fueled blog I've ever written', 'Portal and Mortal Kombat, all in one blog', 'More titles that are just plain cryptic' and 'Wait, I'm doing Neo Geo games now? Since when?'. If you've got a penchant for older or little-known games then VGK's blogs are designed for you. While he mostly dabbling in the obscure, from time to time he ventures out of his domain and talks about more modern titles, so there's something for everyone.

The King's work also spreads to the Giant Bomb wiki. His top contributions are for Samurai Shodown II and the lesser-known Mystic Ark for the SNES. My personal pick has to go to Cocoron, a game that could easily have gotten no attention but VGK still took the time to flesh it out. If you want to see all the pages that VGK has created then he's made a handy list and while there also check out the list for all the games he's completed which is closing in on 1000.

The Community Spotlight - 06/16/2011

No Caption Provided

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Community Spotlight! As you may have noticed the video section and news sections of Giant Bomb have been revised and rehauled. However for Whiskey Media subscribers you'll soon be getting even more goodies to play with such as the ability to embiggen videos. many thanks should be sent to engineer Alexis for making this possible. Also WM engineers are allowing for the use of HTML5 for videos. So please thank GB user rufo for providing a work around for users for the longest time. Worth noting is that the interns are doing their own video show as they plan to take over Giant Bomb. Finally Sweep proves in his Staff Photo Shop Archive Guide that we mods often spend a lot of our time...doing crazy and nonsensical things. With all that noted let's hand things over to mracoon as he presents the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Starlet:

Community Starlet Featuring X19

After a brief hiatus the Community Starlet is back. This week the title is awarded to the archiver of all things video on Giant Bomb, X19. Looking for a specific game on TNT or a specific appearance from a staff member? Then X19's got you covered. Seriously, organizing and sorting through all those episodes is no easy task so props to X19 (and his accomplice ZeekDaGeek for all their hard work on that.

Another one of his impressive guides is for the Giant Bomb Uncharted Clan. If you're interested in playing some Uncharted 2 multiplayer or getting some practice before Nathan Drake's next outing then the clan is for you. They get together every Sunday at 2PM PST but check the guide or PM X19 for full details on how to get in on the action.

X19 has also utilized the list function in a way it probably wasn't originally intended by cataloging all the Endurance Runs in a neat and tidy way. His other list compliments his blog of the same name and is probably what most people on the site know him for. If you've ever had a problem recalling the name of a game whether it be from your childhood or few days ago then X19's 'Can't remember the name of this game' thread is the first place you should go to. With the help of the community the name's over 121 games have been found, that's 121 less nagging thoughts in the back of people's heads.

That does it for this weeks Community Starlet and remember to give your recommendations of other users as always

Female Shepard to be on ME 3 CE Box Art - Well it's About Time

It always seemed odd to me that the male version of Commander Shepard always was billed as the 'canon" version of Commander Shepard. It was especially curious considering she had her own voice actor that I always felt was superior to the male voice actor. Maybe when the Shepard "arc" of the Mass Effect universe comes to a close they can something like KOTOR vs. KOTOR II when it comes to the main charcter. For those that are unaware Darth Revan from the original Knights of the Old Republic in the Star Wars canon is male but the canon version of The Jedi Exile in Knights of the Old Republic II is female. To me this was always a fun little touch that was interesting for those that care that seriously about the Star Wars mythos. But it would be an interesting twist that isn't that big of a deal but I would at least look forward to it.

Now it's not like I'm going to go on a massive feminist rant. Nor am I going to talk about how the only reason why I care about female Shepard is because she is sexually appealing to me. Instead I always felt like FemShep was a better character especially in Mass Effect 2. When it came to the romance options female Shepard had the better characters I could have a relationships with specifically Garrus and Thane. In Mass Effect 1 however I want the record to state that I think that Kaidan Alenko is one of the most boring characters I have ever seen in a BioWare game and I did not hesitate to cheat on his ass when presented the option. Also worth talking about is how I think her voice actor is much better than the male voice actor for Shepard. For the male version of Shepard he always seemed very serious even when I selected the renegade options during dialogue sessions. With female Shepard she always seemed snarky and self aware which is exactly how I would carry myself if I was motherfucking Commander Shepard, "Savior of the Universe." Also BioWare always had these little genius touches in their NPC's dialogue where you got a faint sense of sexism in characters that would underestimate female Shepard, and that made it all the more gratifying when I kicked their butt.

I also never really have liked the look of the default male Shepard in the Mass Effect series. Something about him feels...off if you will. Yes I know I could have customized the look of him. But the default version of either Shepard are the versions that animate best and look superior to any abominations you can create. I always tune out when BioWare talks about how you can customize your character. Partly because no matter how much I try the only thing I end up creating is space Bruce Willis or an even more ugly version of myself. All I ever did to female Shepard was make her hair the most brightest color of pink I could possibly make to just further establish that this is the future and in the future people have neon colored hair.

So with that I concluded my mixed messaged filled blog about female Shepard. Who in my books at least is the one true Shepard in the Mass Effect universe.
