Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight! If you have received a PM from this edition of the Community Spotlight, don't panic! You have created something worth showcasing! For this edition of the Community Spotlight I am going to utilize the #username feature when inputting usernames. There are a couple of reasons for this: 1) It's faster than manually hyper-linking the usernames, and 2) It allows for more users to be aware that they have done something notable. I have done a terrible job at notifying people that they are being showcased or featured on the front-page. By using the #username feature I'm able to notify a larger number of users that I'm showcasing something that they have done quickly and easily. If you absolutely hate it I can put your username on a blacklist to not be linked that way, but honestly give it a try. Again it makes things easier for me, and you get a little congratulatory PM containing the entire edition of the latest Spotlight...almost as if it were an actual community newsletter.

In terms of news there's not much to mention other than the whole Gamewise.co situation is becoming absolutely bonkers. So on that note here's an animated Bombcast video by @mrbrooks:

Last weekend I noticed that our Dog's Life wiki page is better than it has any right to be...kind of like the Dog's Life video game. Finally help make the neat idea of having a "Plagiarism," concept page by attaching more examples you can think of the concept as well as detail the examples of it already known.

Which is the Greater of the Two Brads?

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight! The community is still getting use to both the new site and the announcement of the next Playstallion the Playstallion 4. Our very own Jeff Gerstmann discussed the announcement of the new Equus based platform on Gamespot, and Adam Sessler (yes, on Adam Sessler). If that wasn't shocking enough Brad Muir revealed he was in a Ska Band where he played the saxophone! How is that even possible? Finally best wishes to all of the fine men and women at 1Up and GameSpy, especially Matthew Rorie, after losing their jobs. On that dower note here's a YouTube video of the Bombcast theme masked up with the Saint's Row: The Third garage music:

The Community Spotlight - 02/16/2013 (New Site Edition)

Still Keeping it Unprofessional!
Still Keeping it Unprofessional!

Welcome

Hey...so stuff happened this week. You might have heard some rumors about a new Giant Bomb website being launch. Those rumors are true Yeah, a completely new site, weird right? Over the years that I have been on Giant Bomb, and even before becoming a moderator or even a community promoter, I have experienced five Giant Bomb site re-designs. Some more significant than others; some were even better than others. I kept on using the site regardless of the issues or contrivances that I or any of the other members of this community experienced because they didn't matter. I think I can speak for much of the Giant Bomb community that I have never seen a website that I truly care for take the monumental task of rebuilding itself within a period of about a year. Yes, there are issues still, but that does not change the very special medley of friends, staff, and users who frequent this site any less special. If you disagree, then well...maybe this site and community doesn't mean as much to you as it does to me. That's fine because I have for the greater part of a year have come to terms with the fact that maybe, just maybe I'm a little "Giant Bomb crazy." So let's get through this, together as a community, and do whatever we can to help @snide @ltsquigs @idbloc @alexisg @mrpibb or any of the fine members of the engineering staff (sorry for @Commenting you all by the way) make this site "special." It's the least we can do after over four years of wonderful memories. So without further ado let's go over the week that was on Giant Bomb dot com, a website about videogames. That said don't accept Drobot's pay calls:

Also get well soon Patrick, it looks like you took a big tumble judging from the security cameras:

Important New Site Stuff

With this being a new site there are known issues that are still in the process of being fixed. The API will be fixed for your enjoyment by Wednesday of next week. More importantly, premium subscriptions are being extended for two weeks in light of issues with the new site.

Wonderful Wikis

As already indicated in the "New Site Stuff" the wiki is still kind of screwy. Some of you may be having points issues and others can get your submissions through. The staff, thanks to @marino are aware of almost every single one of these issues so don't worry.

Best of Blog

The site migration did eat up a couple of notable blogs that no longer exist. Also in large part due to the site being a little finicky headers aren't coming back until next week.

Fantastic Forums

Lovable Lists

For those of you that enjoy the list feature there's a new feature on the site that makes finding new and interesting lists a whole lot easier. It's the "This week's most recommended" button on the new and improved "User Lists" page.

Author's Note: I need your help. The user activity feed is helpful but different, and the old "User Review" section on the Reviews tab is gone. Other features are visible but sometimes hard to locate so Spotlights are going to have involve a lot more out of myself and you the community. So please, and I'm saying this from the bottom of my heart, help me out. Let's make this work together.

Stay Unprofessional Any-day, Everyday!
Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight! The beta site is going to become the new Giant Bomb Tuesday, February 12th! Still free to file bug reports on the beta site as it will help the engineers better prepare the site for the launch. Related to the new site is that the moderation and banning system is being changed on the new site. For wiki editors the snapshot for the new site of the current site will be done around the 10th so realize your wiki edits will not carry over when that happens. As you may or may not be aware of our very own Patrick Klepek celebrated his birthday on the 7th...and then proceeded to break his collarbone. Wish Patrick a speedy recovery and a painless surgery over here.
Notable Birthdays this week: Patrick Klepek, and BoG.

Game Nights and Community Activities

Wonderful Wikis

This week we have a handful of big and notable game releases this week...and by that I mean two or three depending on how your gaming tastes swing. Regardless Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage 2 is clearly the front runner as the most important game this week with Fire Emblem Awakening, Dead Space 3, and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time already being dead before they were released.

Best of Blogs

The blog of the week this week comes from EpicSteve who has written an incredibly powerful and personal blog about how video games have helped him deal with PTSD and coming back home from a tour in Afghanistan. It's definitely worth a read if you haven't check it out so far. Another big notable this week comes from Rappelsiini who has hosted a community round-table project where users share their opinions about major questions and issues facing the video game industry and community. With the first wave of big games of the year community is a buzz about the recent releases this week. Phatmac explains why he enjoyed Ni no Kuni, but found that a lot of the game didn't really work for him, whereas Mikey2D has set out to play all of DmC and formulate his own opinion of the game free of the controversy surrounding the game. ArbitraryWater, our old game expert, decided to give Dead Space 3 a go and discusses why it went in the wrong direction in terms of its direction, and unfortunately dankempster talks about his fears about the new direction of Dead Space 3 pending its release. Menace to society Video_Game_King provides a weekly blog about his wacky and odd adventures in Dear Esther as well as MC Kids, while GrantHeaslip continues to give an update on his progress with his Final Fantasy XIII play-through. DevourerOfTime completes his blog series annotating the games he's most excited about with his top five most anticipated games of 2013, and blogging machine Mento has two major blogs this week one with a fun webcomic and the other detailing the weird world of Japanese video games. Dark_Lord_Spam has spent a good deal of time with Guild Wars 2 and explains why the lack of tutorials hurts the game for newcomers, and simultaneously thebigred explains why the art styles of most isometric RPGs aren't what he finds to be appropriate for the genre. Terra was Chubbaluphigouss first real MMO and he discusses how he feels about the game now that it's going Free 2 Play. mtmckinley is still playing Skyrim, but is making it a refreshing experience by adding a good deal of role-playing to his play-through. MetalGearSunny got a PlayStation Vita as a birthday gift and provides his impressions of the platform, D_W explains how his progress in making his own video games is going, and finally MisterBanaFoam gives you an update on his Donkey Kong 64 "endurance run."

Fantastic Forums

big_jon has reached the highest rank in Halo 4's and provides the most comprehensive and detailed review of the game you will ever read. Yummylee has created a forum post about the oddness of the Dead Space 3 Co-op mode. As already mentioned wish Patrick well in his surgery related to his broken collarbone. Finally check out the latest batch of Giant Bomb Bingo sheets that kre8havoc has created.

For issues related to the wiki ltsquigs is the man to talk to. squigs and rchen are the people to talk to if you have any issues related to the new beta chat, which might I say is going to be up for the weekends. So have fun and be free, because the honeymoon wont last forever! Finally hold the presses! Someone on YouTube is posting fake videos of GameBomb.ru...someone call the copyright police!

Wonderful Wikis

Skulls of teh Shogun is finally out! After incorrectly dating it two or three...or maybe even four times the game is finally coming out! Anyways check out the wiki page if you are still interested in learning about all of the mechanics in the game. The wiki pages for Ni No Kuni as well as Proteus have improved in the last week. Finally in anticipation for the release of Fire Emblem: Awakening the Fire Emblem wiki community strikes again with two new and wonderful character pages.

Best of Blogs

The true highlight this week comes from EpicSteve who has written a highly personal and emotional blog about the role that video games have played in him dealing with depression and PTSD after leaving the combat zone in Afghanistan. People are still playing everything related to Devil May Cry ranging from Yummylee breaking down exactly why DMC 2 is such a bad game to ArbitraryWater who played DmC as well as Valkyria Chronicles II. Another popular video game was Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. Sparky_Buzzsaw discusses why he was completely enthralled with the game on his blog whereas Sarumarine explains his disappointment with Ni No Kuni, but satisfaction with The Walking Dead. Mento is starting up a new blog series showcasing twelve notable Turbografx-16 games, whereas Wrighteous86 continues to provide reviews and summaries to all of the Halo novels that Halo 4 expected you to read before playing it. GrantHeaslip wrote up another entry in his blog series of him attempting to play through the entirety of Final Fantasy XIII, but he also wrote and incredibly interesting blog about how collectibles hurt atmosphere and worlds in video games. Mikey2D provided an extremely comprehensive breakdown of his thoughts on the Dead Space 3 demo, and Mago applied the same formula to the Pokemon X/Y news and trailer. C0V3RT discusses how he's going to use the impending release of Wind Waker HD to reassess his feeling about the game. Video_Game_King graces the site with another blog of dubious historical accuracy, and aurahack vents about why you it was a giant waste of money for him to purchase a season pass for Call of Duty: Black Ops II. heatDrive88 tackled the idea of how moral ambiguity makes for more compelling video game stories, and jakob187, one to never shy away from controversial issues, points out how even video game fans need to be more open minded in regards to the debate of violence in games. There are plenty of other wonderful and readable blogs, so go forth find them and tell me all about them.

Fantastic Forums

Antichamber has been hanging out of the Top Sellers list on Steam for a while, and if you are one of the many people who bought but have found yourself stuck on a puzzle or have hints for the game then comment on the Official Antichamber Puzzle Hint Thread. The Dota 2 community has been running a House Tournament for the last week and if you have missed any of the matches check out the Dota 2 Community Spotlight. We have other official discussion threads for the 2013 update of Street Fighter X Tekken, games with confusing menu interfaces, the ending of Proteus, and the best Pokemon games that aren't from the Pokemon franchise.

Lovable Lists

For lists this week we have Super___Sam creating an alphabetical version of the usual "favorite games ever" list. The maestro of lists, Mento, on the other hand has created a highly humorous list of damsels in video games that are young or even children.

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight! If you want some fun stats related to the site apparently Divekick was the #1 most frequented game page this week. If you are interested in reading Ryan's scathing review of Fuji Mongolian BBQ, which you may recall from the most recent Bombcast, someone found it on Yelp. Also related to food is Drew's recipe for his Fritos-Breaded Chicken sandwich that you may have seen on this weeks' "I Love Mondays" video. sgt1shot1kill is the user that sent the amazing poster for the last Mailbag and has uploaded it to the site over here. Finally someone mashed up Rap Man with the theme song to Space Jam...the results are amazing:

Wonderful Wikis

Well if you have been keeping up on the news you know that both Atari and THQ have fallen on less than fortunate luck. THQ is essentially no more, which is unfortunate as our wiki page for the company is stellar, and the same can be said about Relic's page. This also unfortunately means that Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online may never see the light of day. Atari has two company pages on the site and you should check both of them out as they are extremely detail and explain why.

Best of Blogs

The Metal Gear Rising demo has struck a cord with numerous users on the site and Mikey2D in particular who broke down his impressions of the demo on his latest blog this week. JJWeatherman blogged about why he would encourage anyone to play Kentucky Route Zero despite its short game time, whereas I_smell celebrates the release of his indie game on Steam after failing before. Colourful_Hippie talks about why he thinks it is time to retire his 360 despite all of the fun he has had on the platform. Video_Game_King strikes yet again this week and blogs about his adventures on a couple of fun but weird JRPGs, and he is joined by Mento who tackled numerous "weird" Wii games including Fragile Dreams. Having played BlazBlue CSE FluxWaveZ compares the two games and discusses what features from BlazBlue he'd like to see featured in Persona 4 Arena 2, and on the note of Persona 4 fellow moderator Marino popped his Persona 4 virginity by playing Persona 4: Golden and talks about how it was the best 96 hours he has spent in a long time. Now I know that most of you are done with Game of the Year blogs, but plainplease has created a highly humorous 2012 award blog listing the best examples of rolling in 2012. RecSpec finally got around to Mass Effect 2 as part of his effort to finally get through the entire Mass Effect franchise, simultaneously MarkWahlberg got around to blogging about his thoughts about Mass Effect 3 as someone who only knows the Extended Cut Ending. Gamer_152 was completely enamored with Thirty Flights of Love and talks about why on his blog this week, whereas bonbolapti talks about his dislikes of Final Fantasy: All the Bravest as well as DmC. MajorMitch finally got to Torchlight II and found it's similarities with Diablo II a little uncanny and Sarumarine recently played FTL much to his delight. GrantHeaslip played catch up with his Final Fanatsy XIII blog series with two entries this week whereas MisterBananaFoam returned to the curious world of Donkey Kong 64 for his. Finally aurahack compares the relationship and progress of the Souls franchise to that of Persona 3 and 4.

Fantastic Forums

The forums are alive with discussions about recently released games this week. The Cave, Metal gear Rising: Revengeance's demo, and the current state of violent video games all have particular discussion thread worth checking out. If you have ever dabbled in the dark arts of custom video game box cover art show off your art or print outs on the thread about them. If you bought the PC version of DmC post your high-res screenshots on the screenshot thread. Finally, if you can recall the last time you really wanted to go back to an old game just for nostalgia sake describe your last "nostalgia attack" on the thread discussing them.

As always list maniac Mento graces us with a new and creative list, and this time it annotates the notable games with towers in them. Hizang went with a personal list of the top games that made him care about video games, and jonnyflash80 has taken the task of creating a list of every single terrible movie licensed game. It goes without saying that Jonnyflash80 needs and wants your help for his list.

Lovable Lists

This week we have two very interesting lists by Mento and FlaminB. Mento spent his week compiling a list of games with mind-numbingly inane tasks in them that truly will test your patience. Have you ever had a game where you were one achievement or trophy away from "S-Ranking" a game, but that one achievement prevented from doing so? Well FlaminB has a list of games like that.

Hello and welcome to the latest and belated edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight! For those of you that aren't able to join us on the beta site there's some big news to discuss. The Wiki Tasks System is being scrapped and replaced with a flagging system that the engineers are still working the details on. However, there most likely will not be a Task System when the new site launches. For those that are part of the beta check out Jeff's exclusive beta article on problems he has with the Windows 8 App marketplace. Also currently exclusive to the beta site are transcripts of the scripts for the various parody videos for the Game of the Year videos and a new bug report about what has been fixed on the beta site. Matt Pascual is all set for the next Giant Bomb Extra-Life event on November 2nd! Finally ask yourself if you have smashed enough helicopters in your life yet.
